move substrate-bip39 into polkadot-sdk (#3579)
Moves [substrate-bip39](https://github.com/paritytech/substrate-bip39) into substrate. All git history is preserved. Dependencies have been updated to use the same version as the rest of the repo. Lift dependencies to the workspace (Part 2/x) (#3366)
Lifting some more dependencies to the workspace. Just using the most-often updated ones for now. Lift dependencies to the workspace (Part 1) (#2070)
Changes (partial https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/994): - Set log to `0.4.20` everywhere - Lift `log` to the workspace Starting with a simpler one after seeing https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2065 from @jsdw. This sets the `default-features` to `false` in the root and then overwrites that in each create to its original value. This is necessary since otherwise the `default` features are additive and its impossible to disable them in the crate again once they are enabled in the workspace. Make BEEFY client keystore generic over BEEFY AuthorityId type (#2258)
This is the significant step to make BEEFY client able to handle both ECDSA and (ECDSA, BLS) type signature. The idea is having BEEFY Client generic on crypto types makes migration to new types smoother. sp-std -> core (#3199)
First in a series of PRs that reduces our use of sp-std with a view to deprecating it. This is just looking at /substrate and moving some of the references from `sp-std` to `core`. Move cryptographic hashing procedures to crypto folder. (#2306)
Step towards https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/1975 As reported https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/1975#issuecomment-1774534225 I'd like to encapsulate crypto related stuff in a dedicated folder. Currently all cryptographic primitive wrappers are all sparsed in `substrate/core` which contains "misc core" stuff. To simplify the process, as the first step with this PR I propose to move the cryptographic hashing there. The `substrate/crypto` folder was already created to contains `ec-utils` crate. Notes: - rename `sp-core-hashing` to `sp-crypto-hashing` - rename `sp-core-hashing-proc-macro` to `sp-crypto-hashing-proc-macro` - As the crates name is changed I took the freedom to restart fresh from version 0.1.0 for both crates --------- Co-authored-by: Robert Hambrock <roberthambrock@gmail.com> |

Fix clippy lints behind feature gates and add new CI step all features (#2569)
Many clippy lints usually enforced by `-Dcomplexity` and `-Dcorrectness` are not caught by CI as they are gated by `features`, like `runtime-benchmarks`, while the clippy CI job runs with only the default features for all targets. This PR also adds a CI step to run clippy with `--all-features` to ensure the code quality is maintained behind feature gates from now on. Set clippy lints in workspace (requires rust 1.74) (#2390)
We currently use a bit of a hack in `.cargo/config` to make sure that clippy isn't too annoying by specifying the list of lints. There is now a stable way to define lints for a workspace. The only down side is that every crate seems to have to opt into this so there's a *few* files modified in this PR. keyring: remove lazy_static public keys hash maps (#2387)
The `lazy_static` package does not work well in `no-std`: it requires `spin_no_std` feature, which also will propagate into `std` if enabled. This is not what we want. This PR removes public/private key hash-maps and replaces them with simple static byte arrays. `&T` versions of `AsRef/Deref/From` traits implementation were removed. Little const helper for converting hex strings into array during compile time was also added. This will make more sense after https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2524 since the schnorrkel type for VRF outputs is also renamed in the latest version. Can be reviewed independently though. Sassafras Consensus Pallet (#1577)
This PR introduces the pallet for Sassafras consensus. ## Non Goals The pallet delivers only the bare-bones and doesn't deliver support for auxiliary functionalities such as equivocation report and support for epoch change via session pallet. Enforce consistent and correct toml formatting (#2518)
Using taplo, fixes all our broken and inconsistent toml formatting and adds CI to keep them tidy. If people want we can customise the format rules as described here https://taplo.tamasfe.dev/configuration/formatter-options.html @ggwpez, I suggest zepter is used only for checking features are propagated, and leave formatting for taplo to avoid duplicate work and conflicts. Improve CodeExecutor (#2358)
Since `sp-state-machine` and `GenesisConfigBuilderRuntimeCaller` always set `use_native` to be false. We should remove this param and make `NativeElseWasmExecutor` behave like its name. It could make the above components use the correct execution strategy. Maybe polkadot do not need about `NativeElseWasmExecutor` anymore. crypto: lazy_static removed, light parser for address URI added (#2250)
The `lazy_static` package does not work well in `no-std`: it requires `spin_no_std` feature, which also will propagate into `std` if enabled. This is not what we want. This PR provides simple address uri parser which allows to get rid of _regex_ which was used to parse the address uri, what in turns allows to remove lazy_static. Three regular expressions (`SS58_REGEX`,`SECRET_PHRASE_REGEX`,`JUNCTION_REGEX`) were replaced with the parser which unifies all of them. The new parser does not support Unicode, it is ASCII only. Fix ecdsa_bls verify in BEEFY primitives (#2066)
BEEFY ECDSA signatures are on keccak has of the messages. As such we can not simply call `EcdsaBlsPair::verify(signature.as_inner_ref(), msg, self.as_inner_ref())` because that invokes ecdsa default verification which perfoms blake2 hash which we don't want. This bring up the second issue makes: This makes `sign` and `verify` function in `pair_crypto` useless, at least for BEEFY use case. Moreover, there is no obvious clean way to generate the signature given that pair_crypto does not exposes `sign_prehashed`. You could in theory query the keystore for the pair (could you?), invoke `to_raw` and re-generate each sub-pair and sign using each. But that sounds extremely anticlimactic and will be frow upon by auditors . Use Message Queue as DMP and XCMP dispatch queue (#1246)
(imported from https://github.com/paritytech/cumulus/pull/2157) ## Changes This MR refactores the XCMP, Parachains System and DMP pallets to use the [MessageQueue](https://github.com/paritytech/substrate/pull/12485) for delayed execution of incoming messages. The DMP pallet is entirely replaced by the MQ and thereby removed. This allows for PoV-bounded execution and resolves a number of issues that stem from the current work-around. All System Parachains adopt this change. The most important changes are in `primitives/core/src/lib.rs`, `parachains/common/src/process_xcm_message.rs`, `pallets/parachain-system/src/lib.rs`, `pallets/xcmp-queue/src/lib.rs` and the runtime configs. ### DMP Queue Pallet The pallet got removed and its logic refactored into parachain-system. Overweight message management can be done directly through the MQ pallet. Now only sends the most recent channel `Signals`, as all prio ones are out-dated anyway. ### Parachain System pallet For `DMP` messages instead of forwarding them to the `DMP` pallet, it now pushes them to the configured `DmpQueue`. The message processing which was triggered in `set_validation_data` is now being done by the MQ pallet `on_initialize`. XCMP messages are still handed off to the `XcmpMessageHandler` (XCMP-Queue pallet) - no change here. Messages come in from the left via the `Validation Data` and finally end up at the `Xcm Executor` on the right.  ## Further changes - Bumped the default suspension, drop and resume thresholds in `QueueConfigData::default()`. - `XcmpQueue::{suspend_xcm_execution, resume_xcm_execution}` errors when they would be a noop. - Properly validate the `QueueConfigData` before setting it. - Marked weight files as auto-generated so they wont auto-expand in the MR files view. - Move the `hypothetical` asserts to `frame_support` under the name `experimental_hypothetically` Questions: - [ ] What about the ugly `#[cfg(feature = \"runtime-benchmarks\")]` in the runtimes? Not sure how to best fix. Just having them like this makes tests fail that rely on the real message processor when the feature is enabled. - [ ] Need a good weight for `MessageQueueServiceWeight`. The scheduler already takes 80% so I put it to 10% but that is quite low. check-each-crate: Do not reference crate to check by name (#2098)
This pull request changes how `check-each-crate.py` is working. Instead of passing the name of the crate via `-p`, we now jump into the directory of the crate and call there `cargo check`. This should fix issues like https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/2013 where a crate is present twice in the `Cargo.lock`. Besides that it also changes `core/Cargo.toml` to not always pull in bandersnatch. |

### Original PR https://github.com/paritytech/substrate/pull/14137 This PR brings in the first version of the "_`frame` umbrella crate_". This crate is intended to serve two purposes: 1. documentation 2. easier development with frame. Ideally, we want most users to be able to build a frame-based pallet and runtime using just `frame` (plus `scale-codec` and `scale-info`). The crate is not finalized and is not yet intended for external use. Therefore, the version is set to `0.0.1-dev`, this PR is `silent`, and the entire crate is hidden behind the `experimental` flag. The main intention in merging it early on is to be able to iterate on it in the rest of [`developer-hub`](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk-docs/) efforts. Improve features dev-ex (#1831)
Adds a config file that allows to run `zepter` without any arguments in the workspace to address all issues. A secondary workflow for the CI is provided as `zepter run check`. Both the formatting and linting are now in one check for efficiancy. The latest version also detects some more things that `featalign` was already showing. xcm: Change TypeInfo::path to not include staging (#1948)
The `xcm` crate was renamed to `staging-xcm` to be able to publish it to crates.io as someone as squatted `xcm`. The problem with this rename is that the `TypeInfo` includes the crate name which ultimately lands in the metadata. The metadata is consumed by downstream users like `polkadot-js` or people building on top of `polkadot-js`. These people are using the entire `path` to find the type in the type registry. Thus, their code would break as the type path would now be [`staging_xcm`, `VersionedXcm`] instead of [`xcm`, `VersionedXcm`]. This pull request fixes this by renaming the path segment `staging_xcm` to `xcm`. Paired-key Crypto Scheme (#1705)
BEEFY needs two cryptographic keys at the same time. Validators should sign BEEFY payload using both ECDSA and BLS key. The network will gossip a payload which contains a valid ECDSA key. The prover nodes aggregate the BLS keys if aggregation fails to verifies the validator which provided a valid ECDSA signature but an invalid BLS signature is subject to slashing. As such BEEFY session should be initiated with both key. Currently there is no straight forward way of doing so, beside having a session with RuntimeApp corresponding to a crypto scheme contains both keys. Mixnet integration (#1346)
See #1345, <https://github.com/paritytech/substrate/pull/14207>. This adds all the necessary mixnet components, and puts them together in the "kitchen-sink" node/runtime. The components added are: - A pallet (`frame/mixnet`). This is responsible for determining the current mixnet session and phase, and the mixnodes to use in each session. It provides a function that validators can call to register a mixnode for the next session. The logic of this pallet is very similar to that of the `im-online` pallet. - A service (`client/mixnet`). This implements the core mixnet logic, building on the `mixnet` crate. The service communicates with other nodes using notifications sent over the "mixnet" protocol. - An RPC interface. ### Summary This PR introduces new dispatchables to the treasury pallet, allowing spends of various asset types. The enhanced features of the treasury pallet, in conjunction with the asset-rate pallet, are set up and enabled for Westend and Rococo. ### Westend and Rococo runtimes.
