Andrei Sandu	039d183be9	adder-collator: add velocity measurement and make elastic scaling test more robust (#4016 ) Improves `adder-collator` to also compute the parachain velocity. The velocity is defined as number of parachain blocks progressing per relay chain block. Andrei Sandu	417c54c61c	collation-generation + collator-protocol: collate on multiple assigned cores (#3795 ) This works only for collators that implement the `collator_fn` allowing `collation-generation` subsystem to pull collations triggered on new heads. Also enables `request_v2::CollationFetchingResponse::CollationWithParentHeadData` for test adder/undying collators. Oliver Tale-Yazdi	e80c24733f	Lift dependencies to the workspace (Part 1) (#2070 ) Changes (partial https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/994): - Set log to `0.4.20` everywhere - Lift `log` to the workspace Starting with a simpler one after seeing https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2065 from @jsdw. This sets the `default-features` to `false` in the root and then overwrites that in each create to its original value. This is necessary since otherwise the `default` features are additive and its impossible to disable them in the crate again once they are enabled in the workspace. Oliver Tale-Yazdi	fafe2722a1	Revert "[Runtime] Bound XCMP queue" (#3117 ) Reverts paritytech/polkadot-sdk#2302. 🤦‍♂️ should have checked the migration CI first. We either need to reduce the `max_message_size` for the open HRMP channels on the failing chains or increase the `PageSize` of the XCMP queue. Both would be fine on a test-net, but i assume this will also fail before the next SP runtime upgrade so first need to think what best to do. Part of https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/323 Changes: - Limit the number of channels that can be suspended at the same time. - Limit the number of channels that can have messages or signals pending at the same time. A No-OP migration is put in place to ensure that all `BoundedVec`s still decode and not truncate after upgrade. s0me0ne-unkn0wn	3e8139e7de	Do not run unneeded subsystems on collator and its alongside node (#3061 ) Currently, collators and their alongside nodes spin up a full-scale overseer running a bunch of subsystems that are not needed if the node is not a validator. That was considered to be harmless; however, we've got problems with unused subsystems getting stalled for a reason not currently known, resulting in the overseer exiting and bringing down the whole node. This PR aims to only run needed subsystems on such nodes, replacing the rest with `DummySubsystem`. It also enables collator-optimized availability recovery subsystem implementation. Joshy Orndorff	caa987d26d	Adder Parachain: Accept output file argument to `export-genesis-*` subcommands (#2370 ) This PR makes a small change the the adder parachain's CLI. It allows the user to specify an output file explicitly when generating the genesis wasm and head data. Now we no longer have to rely on redirecting the output to a file at the shell level. This change is nice because if you have any debugging lines enabled, shell redirection does not work. More to the point, this makes the adder parachain's CLI match the cumulus collator's CLI. Squirrel	be8e626806	Set clippy lints in workspace (requires rust 1.74) (#2390 ) We currently use a bit of a hack in `.cargo/config` to make sure that clippy isn't too annoying by specifying the list of lints. There is now a stable way to define lints for a workspace. The only down side is that every crate seems to have to opt into this so there's a few files modified in this PR. Joshy Orndorff	8683bbeefb	Rename `ExportGenesisStateCommand` to `ExportGenesisHeadCommand` and make it respect custom genesis block builders (#2331 ) Closes #2326. This PR both fixes a logic bug and replaces an incorrect name. ## Bug Fix: Respecting custom genesis builder Prior to this PR the standard logic for creating a genesis block was repeated inside of cumulus. This PR removes that duplicated logic, and calls into the proper `BuildGenesisBlock` implementation. One consequence is that if the genesis block has already been initialized, it will not be re-created, but rather read from the database like it is for other node invocations. So you need to watch out for old unpurged data during the development process. Offchain tools may need to be updated accordingly. I've already filed https://github.com/paritytech/zombienet/issues/1519 ## Rename: It doesn't export state. It exports head data. The name export-genesis-state was always wrong, nad it's never too late to right a wrong. I've changed the name of the struct to `ExportGenesisHeadCommand`. There is still the question of what to do with individual nodes' public CLIs. I have updated the parachain template to a reasonable default that preserves compatibility with tools that will expect `export-genesis-state` to still work. And I've chosen not to modify the public CLIs of any other nodes in the repo. Alexandru Gheorghe	a84dd0dba5	Approve multiple candidates with a single signature (#1191 ) Initial implementation for the plan discussed here: https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/701 Built on top of https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/1178 v0: https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot/pull/7554, ## Overall idea When approval-voting checks a candidate and is ready to advertise the approval, defer it in a per-relay chain block until we either have MAX_APPROVAL_COALESCE_COUNT candidates to sign or a candidate has stayed MAX_APPROVALS_COALESCE_TICKS in the queue, in both cases we sign what candidates we have available. This should allow us to reduce the number of approvals messages we have to create/send/verify. The parameters are configurable, so we should find some values that balance: - Security of the network: Delaying broadcasting of an approval shouldn't but the finality at risk and to make sure that never happens we won't delay sending a vote if we are past 2/3 from the no-show time. - Scalability of the network: MAX_APPROVAL_COALESCE_COUNT = 1 & MAX_APPROVALS_COALESCE_TICKS =0, is what we have now and we know from the measurements we did on versi, it bottlenecks approval-distribution/approval-voting when increase significantly the number of validators and parachains - Block storage: In case of disputes we have to import this votes on chain and that increase the necessary storage with MAX_APPROVAL_COALESCE_COUNT * CandidateHash per vote. Given that disputes are not the normal way of the network functioning and we will limit MAX_APPROVAL_COALESCE_COUNT in the single digits numbers, this should be good enough. Koute	2610450a18	Build the standard library crates when building the runtimes (#2217 ) Our executor currently only supports the WASM MVP feature set, however nowadays when compiling WASM the Rust compiler has more features enabled by default. We do set the `-C target-cpu=mvp` flag to make sure that our code gets compiled in a way that is compatible with our executor, however this doesn't affect Rust's standard library crates (`std`, `core` and `alloc`) which are by default precompiled and still can make use of these extra features. So in this PR we force the compiler to also compile the standard library crates for us to make sure that they also only use the MVP features. I've added the `WASM_BUILD_STD` environment variable which can be used to disable this behavior if set to `0`. Unfortunately this will slow down the compile times when building runtimes, but there isn't much that we can do about that. This version introduces a new kind of assignment certificate that will be used for tranche0 assignments. Instead of issuing/importing one tranche0 assignment per candidate, there will be just one certificate per relay chain block per validator. However, we will not be sending out the new assignment certificates, yet. So everything should work exactly as before. Oliver Tale-Yazdi	e1c033ebe1	Use `Message Queue` as DMP and XCMP dispatch queue (#1246 ) (imported from https://github.com/paritytech/cumulus/pull/2157) ## Changes This MR refactores the XCMP, Parachains System and DMP pallets to use the [MessageQueue](https://github.com/paritytech/substrate/pull/12485) for delayed execution of incoming messages. The DMP pallet is entirely replaced by the MQ and thereby removed. This allows for PoV-bounded execution and resolves a number of issues that stem from the current work-around. All System Parachains adopt this change. The most important changes are in `primitives/core/src/lib.rs`, `parachains/common/src/process_xcm_message.rs`, `pallets/parachain-system/src/lib.rs`, `pallets/xcmp-queue/src/lib.rs` and the runtime configs. ### DMP Queue Pallet The pallet got removed and its logic refactored into parachain-system. Overweight message management can be done directly through the MQ pallet. Now only sends the most recent channel `Signals`, as all prio ones are out-dated anyway. ### Parachain System pallet For `DMP` messages instead of forwarding them to the `DMP` pallet, it now pushes them to the configured `DmpQueue`. The message processing which was triggered in `set_validation_data` is now being done by the MQ pallet `on_initialize`. XCMP messages are still handed off to the `XcmpMessageHandler` (XCMP-Queue pallet) - no change here. Joshy Orndorff	bdf186870d	`polkadot-parachain-primitives` should not depend on `frame-support`. (#1897 ) This PR does not make any functional changes to the code. Rather, it restructures the dependency graph. Before this PR, the crate `polkadot-parachain-primitives` depended directly on the crate `frame-support`. This is wrong in principal because a parachain does not necessarily have anything to do with frame. This dependency was only for the `Weight` type which was just a re-export from `sp-weights` anyway. A secondary workflow for the CI is provided as `zepter run check`. Both the formatting and linting are now in one check for efficiancy. Bastian Köcher	f3bf5c1acd	`xcm`: Change `TypeInfo::path` to not include `staging` (#1948 ) The `xcm` crate was renamed to `staging-xcm` to be able to publish it to crates.io as someone as squatted `xcm`. The problem with this rename is that the `TypeInfo` includes the crate name which ultimately lands in the metadata. The metadata is consumed by downstream users like `polkadot-js` or people building on top of `polkadot-js`. These people are using the entire `path` to find the type in the type registry. Thus, their code would break as the type path would now be [`staging_xcm`, `VersionedXcm`] instead of [`xcm`, `VersionedXcm`]. This pull request fixes this by renaming the path segment `staging_xcm` to `xcm`. Keith Yeung	3dece311be	Introduce XcmFeesToAccount fee manager (#1234 ) Combination of paritytech/polkadot#7005, its addon PR paritytech/polkadot#7585 and its companion paritytech/cumulus#2433. This PR introduces a new XcmFeesToAccount struct which implements the `FeeManager` trait, and assigns this struct as the `FeeManager` in the XCM config for all runtimes. The struct simply deposits all fees handled by the XCM executor to a specified account. In all runtimes, the specified account is configured as the treasury account. XCM __delivery__ fees are now being introduced (unless the root origin is sending a message to a system parachain on behalf of the originating chain). # Note for reviewers Most file changes are tests that had to be modified to account for the new fees. Main changes are in: - cumulus/pallets/xcmp-queue/src/lib.rs <- To make it track the delivery fees exponential factor - polkadot/xcm/xcm-builder/src/fee_handling.rs <- Added. Has the FeeManager implementation - All runtime xcm_config files <- To add the FeeManager to the XCM configuration # Important note After this change, instructions that create and send a new XCM (Query, Report, ExportMessage, InitiateReserveWithdraw, InitiateTeleport, DepositReserveAsset, TransferReserveAsset, LockAsset and RequestUnlock) will require the corresponding origin account in the origin register to pay for transport delivery fees, and the onward message will fail to be sent if the origin account does not have the required amount. This delivery fee is on top of what we already collect as tx fees in pallet-xcm and XCM BuyExecution fees! Branislav Kontur	d569e728ca	"Common good" vs "System" parachain clean up (#1406 ) ## Summary The term "common good parachain" has been abandoned in favor of "system parachain" - e.g. [Joe's speech at Decoded2023](https://youtu.be/CSO-ERHK2gY?t=456). This pull request tries to fix and align code with this vision. ## Impact The important change is implementation of `trait IsSystem` for `Id` [here](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/1406/files#diff-0b7b4f5b962a18ce980354592b55ab2a27b5a2e9f6f8089ec803ca73853e8583R225-R229) where we changed condition from `< 1000` to `<= 1999`, which means that all parachain IDs bellow 1999 (included) are considered as "system parachain" IDs. This change has a direct impact on the following components: #### [ChildSystemParachainAsSuperuser](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/blob/master/polkadot/xcm/xcm-builder/src/origin_conversion.rs#L72-L88) This origin converter is used for allowing to process XCM `Transact` from "system parachain" on the relay chain - e.g. see [configuration for Kusama](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/blob/master/polkadot/runtime/kusama/src/xcm_config.rs#L92-L101). Only configured for Kusama, Westend, Rococo runtimes. No need for this feature anymore. See [comment](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/1406#issuecomment-1708218715). #### [IsChildSystemParachain](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/blob/master/polkadot/xcm/xcm-builder/src/barriers.rs#L310-L317) `IsChildSystemParachain` is used with `AllowExplicitUnpaidExecutionFrom` barrier for checking XCM programs (they have to start with `UnpaidExecution` instruction). Only configured for Kusama, Westend, Rococo runtimes. Overall the impact is low or mostly ok because it only allows unpaid execution for "system parachains" (e.g. AssetHub, BridgeHub...) on the relay chain. #### [SiblingSystemParachainAsSuperuser](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/blob/master/polkadot/xcm/xcm-builder/src/origin_conversion.rs#L94-L114) Not used anywhere in `polkadot-sdk` repo. ## Unresolved Questions - [ ] constants `LOWEST_USER_ID` and `LOWEST_PUBLIC_ID` seem to express the same thing now, do we want to keep them both or deprecated one of them? s0me0ne-unkn0wn	2c8021f998	Retire puppet workers (#1449 ) Closes #583 After the separation of PVF worker binaries, dedicated puppet workers are not needed for tests anymore. The production workers can be used instead, avoiding some code duplication and decreasing complexity.
