sp-std removal from substrate/primitives (#3274)
This PR removes sp-std crate from substrate/primitives sub-directories. For now crates that have `pub use` of sp-std or export macros that would necessitate users of the macros to `extern crate alloc` have been excluded from this PR. Lift dependencies to the workspace (Part 1) (#2070)
Changes (partial https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/994): - Set log to `0.4.20` everywhere - Lift `log` to the workspace Starting with a simpler one after seeing https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2065 from @jsdw. This sets the `default-features` to `false` in the root and then overwrites that in each create to its original value. This is necessary since otherwise the `default` features are additive and its impossible to disable them in the crate again once they are enabled in the workspace. Build more runtimes targeting PolkaVM (#3209)
This PR improves compatibility with RISC-V and PolkaVM, allowing more runtimes to successfully compile. In particular, it makes the following changes: - The `sp-mmr-primitives` and `sp-consensus-beefy` crates unconditionally required an `std`-only dependency; now they only require those dependencies when the `std` feature is actually enabled. (Our RISC-V target is, unlike WASM, a true `no_std` target where you can't accidentally use stuff from `std` anymore.) - One of our dependencies (the `bitvec` trace) uses a crate called `radium` which doesn't compile under RISC-V due to incomplete autodetection logic in their `build.rs` file. The good news is that this is already fixed in the newest upstream version of `radium`, and the newest version of `bitvec` uses it. The bad news is that the newest version of `bitvec` is not currently released on crates.io, so we can't use it. I've [created an issue](https://github.com/ferrilab/ferrilab/issues/5) asking for a new release, but in the meantime I forked the currently used `radium` 0.7, [fixed the faulty logic](https://github.com/paritytech/radium-0.7-fork/commit/ed66c8a294b138c67f93499644051d97d4c7fbda) and used cargo's patching capabilities to use it for the RISC-V runtime builds. This might be a little hacky, but it is the least intrusive way to fix the problem, doesn't affect WASM builds at all, and we can trivially remove it once a new `bitvec` is released. - The new runtimes are added to the CI to make sure their compilation doesn't break. |

Set clippy lints in workspace (requires rust 1.74) (#2390)
We currently use a bit of a hack in `.cargo/config` to make sure that clippy isn't too annoying by specifying the list of lints. There is now a stable way to define lints for a workspace. The only down side is that every crate seems to have to opt into this so there's a *few* files modified in this PR. Enforce consistent and correct toml formatting (#2518)
Using taplo, fixes all our broken and inconsistent toml formatting and adds CI to keep them tidy. If people want we can customise the format rules as described here https://taplo.tamasfe.dev/configuration/formatter-options.html @ggwpez, I suggest zepter is used only for checking features are propagated, and leave formatting for taplo to avoid duplicate work and conflicts. Improve features dev-ex (#1831)
Adds a config file that allows to run `zepter` without any arguments in the workspace to address all issues. A secondary workflow for the CI is provided as `zepter run check`. Both the formatting and linting are now in one check for efficiancy. The latest version also detects some more things that `featalign` was already showing. Error message [in the CI](https://gitlab.parity.io/parity/mirrors/polkadot-sdk/-/jobs/3916205) now looks like this: ```pre ... crate 'test-parachains' (/Users/vados/Documents/work/polkadot-sdk/polkadot/parachain/test-parachains/Cargo.toml) feature 'std' must propagate to: parity-scale-codec Found 55 issues (run with --fix to fix). xcm: Change TypeInfo::path to not include staging (#1948)
The `xcm` crate was renamed to `staging-xcm` to be able to publish it to crates.io as someone as squatted `xcm`. The problem with this rename is that the `TypeInfo` includes the crate name which ultimately lands in the metadata. The metadata is consumed by downstream users like `polkadot-js` or people building on top of `polkadot-js`. These people are using the entire `path` to find the type in the type registry. Thus, their code would break as the type path would now be [`staging_xcm`, `VersionedXcm`] instead of [`xcm`, `VersionedXcm`]. This pull request fixes this by renaming the path segment `staging_xcm` to `xcm`. * pallet-mmr: fix some typos * pallet-mmr: make the MMR resilient to chain forks * pallet-mmr: get hash for block that added node * beefy-mmr: add debug logging * add explanatory comment * account for block offset of pallet activation * add support for finding all nodes added by leaf * minor improvements * add helper to return all nodes added to mmr with a leaf append * simplify leaf_node_index_to_leaf_index summing the (shifted) differences in peak positions adds up to the (shifted) final position, so don't need to fold over positions. * dead fish: this also doesn't work The idea was to keep a rolling window of `(parent_hash, pos)` leaf entries in the offchain db, with the window matching the one that provides `block_num -> block_hash` mappings in `frame_system`. Once a leaf exits the window it would be "canonicalized" by switching its offchain db key from `(parent_hash, pos)` to simple `pos`. This doesn't work however because there's no way to get leaf contents from offchain db while in runtime context.. so no way to get+clear+set leaf to change its key in offchain db. Ideas: 1. move the "canonicalization" logic to offchain worker 2. enhance IndexingApi with "offchain::move(old_key, new_key)" This is weird, but correct, deterministic and safe AFAICT, so it could be exposed to runtime. * simplify rightmost_leaf_node_index_from_pos * minor fix * move leaf canonicalization to offchain worker * move storage related code to storage.rs * on offchain reads use canonic key for old leaves * fix offchain worker write using canon key * fix pallet-mmr tests * add documentation and fix logging * add offchain mmr canonicalization test * test canon + generate + verify * fix pallet-beefy-mmr tests * implement review suggestions * improve test * pallet-mmr: add offchain pruning of forks * pallet-mmr: improve offchain pruning Instead of keeping pruning map as single blob in offchain db, keep individual parent-hash lists with block-num identifier as part of the offchain key.
