sp-std removal from substrate/primitives (#3274)
This PR removes sp-std crate from substrate/primitives sub-directories. For now crates that have `pub use` of sp-std or export macros that would necessitate users of the macros to `extern crate alloc` have been excluded from this PR. Support for keyring in runtimes (#2044)
This functionality is required for #1984. This PR enables [`sp-keyring`](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/blob/21d36b7b4229c4d5225944f197918cde23fda4ea/substrate/primitives/keyring/src/sr25519.rs#L31-L40) in `no-std` environments, allowing to generate the public key (e.g. `AccountKeyring::Alice.public().to_ss58check()`), which can be later used in the any of built-in [_runtime-genesis-config_ variant](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/blob/21d36b7b4229c4d5225944f197918cde23fda4ea/polkadot/node/service/src/chain_spec.rs#L1066-L1073). The proposal is as follows: - expose [`core::Pair` trait](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/blob/d6f15306282e3de848a09c9aa9cba6f95a7811f0/substrate/primitives/core/src/crypto.rs#L832) in `no-std`, - `full_crypto` feature enables `sign` method, - `std` feature enables `generate_with_phrase` and `generate` methods (randomness is required), - All other functionality, currently gated by `full_crypto` will be available unconditionally (`no-std`): -- `from_string` -- `from_string_with_seed` -- `from seed` -- `from_seed_slice` -- `from_phrase` -- `derive` -- `verify` --- Depends on https://github.com/rust-bitcoin/rust-bip39/pull/57 --------- Co-authored-by: command-bot <> Co-authored-by: Davide Galassi <davxy@datawok.net> |

Lift dependencies to the workspace (Part 1) (#2070)
Changes (partial https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/994): - Set log to `0.4.20` everywhere - Lift `log` to the workspace Starting with a simpler one after seeing https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2065 from @jsdw. This sets the `default-features` to `false` in the root and then overwrites that in each create to its original value. This is necessary since otherwise the `default` features are additive and its impossible to disable them in the crate again once they are enabled in the workspace. Move cryptographic hashing procedures to crypto folder. (#2306)
Step towards https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/1975 As reported https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/1975#issuecomment-1774534225 I'd like to encapsulate crypto related stuff in a dedicated folder. Currently all cryptographic primitive wrappers are all sparsed in `substrate/core` which contains "misc core" stuff. To simplify the process, as the first step with this PR I propose to move the cryptographic hashing there. The `substrate/crypto` folder was already created to contains `ec-utils` crate. Set clippy lints in workspace (requires rust 1.74) (#2390)
We currently use a bit of a hack in `.cargo/config` to make sure that clippy isn't too annoying by specifying the list of lints. There is now a stable way to define lints for a workspace. The only down side is that every crate seems to have to opt into this so there's a *few* files modified in this PR. Enforce consistent and correct toml formatting (#2518)
Using taplo, fixes all our broken and inconsistent toml formatting and adds CI to keep them tidy. If people want we can customise the format rules as described here https://taplo.tamasfe.dev/configuration/formatter-options.html @ggwpez, I suggest zepter is used only for checking features are propagated, and leave formatting for taplo to avoid duplicate work and conflicts. This PR prepares chains specs for _native-runtime-free_ world. This PR has following changes: - `substrate`: - adds support for: - JSON based `GenesisConfig` to `ChainSpec` allowing interaction with runtime `GenesisBuilder` API. - interacting with arbitrary runtime wasm blob to[ `chain-spec-builder`](https://github.com/paritytech/substrate/blob/3ef576eaeb3f42610e85daecc464961cf1295570/bin/utils/chain-spec-builder/src/lib.rs#L46) command line util, - removes [`code`](https://github.com/paritytech/substrate/blob/3ef576eaeb3f42610e85daecc464961cf1295570/frame/system/src/lib.rs#L660) from `system_pallet` - adds `code` to the `ChainSpec` - deprecates [`ChainSpec::from_genesis`](https://github.com/paritytech/substrate/blob/3ef576eaeb3f42610e85daecc464961cf1295570/client/chain-spec/src/chain_spec.rs#L263), but also changes the signature of this method extending it with `code` argument. Improve features dev-ex (#1831)
Adds a config file that allows to run `zepter` without any arguments in the workspace to address all issues. A secondary workflow for the CI is provided as `zepter run check`. Both the formatting and linting are now in one check for efficiancy. The latest version also detects some more things that `featalign` was already showing. Error message [in the CI](https://gitlab.parity.io/parity/mirrors/polkadot-sdk/-/jobs/3916205) now looks like this: ```pre ... crate 'test-parachains' (/Users/vados/Documents/work/polkadot-sdk/polkadot/parachain/test-parachains/Cargo.toml) feature 'std' must propagate to: parity-scale-codec Found 55 issues (run with --fix to fix). xcm: Change TypeInfo::path to not include staging (#1948)
The `xcm` crate was renamed to `staging-xcm` to be able to publish it to crates.io as someone as squatted `xcm`. The problem with this rename is that the `TypeInfo` includes the crate name which ultimately lands in the metadata. The metadata is consumed by downstream users like `polkadot-js` or people building on top of `polkadot-js`. These people are using the entire `path` to find the type in the type registry. Thus, their code would break as the type path would now be [`staging_xcm`, `VersionedXcm`] instead of [`xcm`, `VersionedXcm`]. This pull request fixes this by renaming the path segment `staging_xcm` to `xcm`. * pallet-beefy: add Config::OnNewValidatorSet type Add a hook to pallet-beefy for doing specific work when BEEFY validator set changes. For example, this can be used by pallet-beefy-mmr to cache a lightweight MMR root over validators and make it available to light clients. * pallet-beefy-mmr: implement OnNewValidatorSet Implement pallet-beefy::OnNewValidatorSet to be notified of BEEFY validator set changes. Use the notifications to compute and cache a light weight 'BEEFY authority set' which is an MMR root over BEEFY validator set plus some extra info. Previously, pallet-beefy-mmr was interogating pallet-beefy about validator set id on every block to find out when it needs to recompute the authority set. By using the event-driven approach in this commit, we also save one extra state interogation per block. * pallet-beefy-mmr: add new authority_set() API Expose current and next BEEFY authority sets through runtime API. These can be directly used by light clients to avoid having them compute them themselves based on BEEFY validator sets.
