Add retry mechanics to pallet-scheduler (#3060)
Fixes #3014 This PR adds retry mechanics to `pallet-scheduler`, as described in the issue above. Users can now set a retry configuration for a task so that, in case its scheduled run fails, it will be retried after a number of blocks, for a specified number of times or until it succeeds. If a retried task runs successfully before running out of retries, its remaining retry counter will be reset to the initial value. If a retried task runs out of retries, it will be removed from the schedule. Tasks which need to be scheduled for a retry are still subject to weight metering and agenda space, same as a regular task. Periodic tasks will have their periodic schedule put on hold while the task is retrying. --------- Signed-off-by: georgepisaltu <george.pisaltu@parity.io> Co-authored-by: command-bot <> |

Implements a % cap on staking rewards from era inflation (#1660)
This PR implements an (optional) cap of the era inflation that is allocated to staking rewards. The remaining is minted directly into the [`RewardRemainder`](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/blob/fb0fd3e62445eb2dee2b2456a0c8574d1ecdcc73/substrate/frame/staking/src/pallet/mod.rs#L160) account, which is the treasury pot account in Polkadot and Kusama. The staking pallet now has a percent storage item, `MaxStakersRewards`, which defines the max percentage of the era inflation that should be allocated to staking rewards. The remaining era inflation (i.e. `remaining = max_era_payout - staking_payout.min(staking_payout * MaxStakersRewards))` is minted directly into the treasury. The `MaxStakersRewards` can be set by a privileged origin through the `set_staking_configs` extrinsic. **To finish** - [x] run benchmarks for westend-runtime Replaces https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/1483 Closes https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/403 --------- Co-authored-by: command-bot <> |

Lift dependencies to the workspace (Part 1) (#2070)
Changes (partial https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/994): - Set log to `0.4.20` everywhere - Lift `log` to the workspace Starting with a simpler one after seeing https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2065 from @jsdw. This sets the `default-features` to `false` in the root and then overwrites that in each create to its original value. This is necessary since otherwise the `default` features are additive and its impossible to disable them in the crate again once they are enabled in the workspace. I am using a tool to do this, so its mostly a test to see that it works as expected. --------- Signed-off-by: Oliver Tale-Yazdi <oliver.tale-yazdi@parity.io> |

Fixes TotalValueLocked out of sync in nomination pools (#3052)
The `TotalLockedValue` storage value in nomination pools pallet may get out of sync if the staking pallet does implicit withdrawal of unlocking chunks belonging to a bonded pool stash. This fix is based on a new method in the `OnStakingUpdate` traits, `on_withdraw`, which allows the nomination pools pallet to adjust the `TotalLockedValue` every time there is an implicit or explicit withdrawal from a bonded pool's stash. This PR also adds a migration that checks and updates the on-chain TVL if it got out of sync due to the bug this PR fixes. **Changes to `trait OnStakingUpdate`** In order for staking to notify the nomination pools pallet that chunks where withdrew, we add a new method, `on_withdraw` to the `OnStakingUpdate` trait. The nomination pools pallet filters the withdraws that are related to bonded pool accounts and updates the `TotalValueLocked` accordingly. **Others** - Adds try-state checks to the EPM/staking e2e tests - Adds tests for auto withdrawing in the context of nomination pools **To-do** - [x] check if we need a migration to fix the current `TotalValueLocked` (run try-runtime) - [x] migrations to fix the current on-chain TVL value ✅ **Kusama**: ``` TotalValueLocked: 99.4559 kKSM TotalValueLocked (calculated) 99.4559 kKSM ``` ⚠️ **Westend**: ``` TotalValueLocked: 18.4060 kWND TotalValueLocked (calculated) 18.4050 kWND ``` **Polkadot**: TVL not released yet. Ranked collective Add+Remove origins (#3212)
Superseeds https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/1245 This PR is a migration of the https://github.com/paritytech/substrate/pull/14577. The PR added associated types (`AddOrigin` & `RemoveOrigin`) to `Config`. It allows you to decouple types and areas of responsibility, since at the moment the same types are responsible for adding and promoting(removing and demoting). This will improve the flexibility of the pallet configuration. ``` /// The origin required to add a member. type AddOrigin: EnsureOrigin<Self::RuntimeOrigin, Success = ()>; /// The origin required to remove a member. The success value indicates the /// maximum rank *from which* the removal may be. type RemoveOrigin: EnsureOrigin<Self::RuntimeOrigin, Success = Rank>; ``` To achieve the backward compatibility, the users of the pallet can use the old type via the new morph: ``` type AddOrigin = MapSuccess<Self::PromoteOrigin, Ignore>; type RemoveOrigin = Self::DemoteOrigin; ``` --------- Signed-off-by: Oliver Tale-Yazdi <oliver.tale-yazdi@parity.io> Co-authored-by: PraetorP <praetorian281@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Pavel Orlov <45266194+PraetorP@users.noreply.github.com> |

[frame] #[pallet::composite_enum] improved variant count handling + removed pallet_balances's MaxHolds config (#2657)
I started this investigation/issue based on @liamaharon question [here](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/1801#discussion_r1410452499). ## Problem The `pallet_balances` integrity test should correctly detect that the runtime has correct distinct `HoldReasons` variant count. I assume the same situation exists for RuntimeFreezeReason. It is not a critical problem, if we set `MaxHolds` with a sufficiently large value, everything should be ok. However, in this case, the integrity_test check becomes less useful. **Situation for "any" runtime:** - `HoldReason` enums from different pallets: ```rust /// from pallet_nis #[pallet::composite_enum] pub enum HoldReason { NftReceipt, } /// from pallet_preimage #[pallet::composite_enum] pub enum HoldReason { Preimage, } // from pallet_state-trie-migration #[pallet::composite_enum] pub enum HoldReason { SlashForContinueMigrate, SlashForMigrateCustomTop, SlashForMigrateCustomChild, } ``` - generated `RuntimeHoldReason` enum looks like: ```rust pub enum RuntimeHoldReason { #[codec(index = 32u8)] Preimage(pallet_preimage::HoldReason), #[codec(index = 38u8)] Nis(pallet_nis::HoldReason), #[codec(index = 42u8)] StateTrieMigration(pallet_state_trie_migration::HoldReason), } ``` - composite enum `RuntimeHoldReason` variant count is detected as `3` - we set `type MaxHolds = ConstU32<3>` - `pallet_balances::integrity_test` is ok with `3`(at least 3) However, the real problem can occur in a live runtime where some functionality might stop working. This is due to a total of 5 distinct hold reasons (for pallets with multi-instance support, it is even more), and not all of them can be used because of an incorrect `MaxHolds`, which is deemed acceptable according to the `integrity_test`: ``` // pseudo-code - if we try to call all of these: T::Currency::hold(&pallet_nis::HoldReason::NftReceipt.into(), &nft_owner, deposit)?; T::Currency::hold(&pallet_preimage::HoldReason::Preimage.into(), &nft_owner, deposit)?; T::Currency::hold(&pallet_state_trie_migration::HoldReason::SlashForContinueMigrate.into(), &nft_owner, deposit)?; // With `type MaxHolds = ConstU32<3>` these two will fail T::Currency::hold(&pallet_state_trie_migration::HoldReason::SlashForMigrateCustomTop.into(), &nft_owner, deposit)?; T::Currency::hold(&pallet_state_trie_migration::HoldReason::SlashForMigrateCustomChild.into(), &nft_owner, deposit)?; ``` ## Solutions A macro `#[pallet::*]` expansion is extended of `VariantCount` implementation for the `#[pallet::composite_enum]` enum type. This expansion generates the `VariantCount` implementation for pallets' `HoldReason`, `FreezeReason`, `LockId`, and `SlashReason`. Enum variants must be plain enum values without fields to ensure a deterministic count. The composite runtime enum, `RuntimeHoldReason` and `RuntimeFreezeReason`, now sets `VariantCount::VARIANT_COUNT` as the sum of pallets' enum `VariantCount::VARIANT_COUNT`: ```rust #[frame_support::pallet(dev_mode)] mod module_single_instance { #[pallet::composite_enum] pub enum HoldReason { ModuleSingleInstanceReason1, ModuleSingleInstanceReason2, } ... } #[frame_support::pallet(dev_mode)] mod module_multi_instance { #[pallet::composite_enum] pub enum HoldReason<I: 'static = ()> { ModuleMultiInstanceReason1, ModuleMultiInstanceReason2, ModuleMultiInstanceReason3, } ... } impl self::sp_api_hidden_includes_construct_runtime::hidden_include::traits::VariantCount for RuntimeHoldReason { const VARIANT_COUNT: u32 = 0 + module_single_instance::HoldReason::VARIANT_COUNT + module_multi_instance::HoldReason::<module_multi_instance::Instance1>::VARIANT_COUNT + module_multi_instance::HoldReason::<module_multi_instance::Instance2>::VARIANT_COUNT + module_multi_instance::HoldReason::<module_multi_instance::Instance3>::VARIANT_COUNT; } ``` In addition, `MaxHolds` is removed (as suggested [here](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2657#discussion_r1443324573)) from `pallet_balances`, and its `Holds` are now bounded to `RuntimeHoldReason::VARIANT_COUNT`. Therefore, there is no need to let the runtime specify `MaxHolds`. ## For reviewers Relevant changes can be found here: - `substrate/frame/support/procedural/src/lib.rs` - `substrate/frame/support/procedural/src/pallet/parse/composite.rs` - `substrate/frame/support/procedural/src/pallet/expand/composite.rs` - `substrate/frame/support/procedural/src/construct_runtime/expand/composite_helper.rs` - `substrate/frame/support/procedural/src/construct_runtime/expand/hold_reason.rs` - `substrate/frame/support/procedural/src/construct_runtime/expand/freeze_reason.rs` - `substrate/frame/support/src/traits/misc.rs` And the rest of the files is just about removed `MaxHolds` from `pallet_balances` ## Next steps Do the same for `MaxFreezes` https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/2997. --------- Co-authored-by: command-bot <> Co-authored-by: Bastian Köcher <git@kchr.de> Co-authored-by: Dónal Murray <donal.murray@parity.io> Co-authored-by: gupnik <nikhilgupta.iitk@gmail.com> |

Transactional processing for XCM (#1222)
Moved from: https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot/pull/6951 closes https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/490 - [x] update cumulus --- This PR introduces transactional processing of certain xcm instructions. For the list of instructions checkout https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/490. The transactional processing is implemented as an xcm-executor config item. The two implementations in this PR are `FrameTransactionalProcessor` and `()`. The `()` implementation does no transactional processing. Each implementation of the `ProcessTransaction` trait has an `IS_TRANSACTIONAL` const that tells the XCVM if transactional processing is actually implemented. If Transactional processing is implemented, changes to touched registers should also be rolled back to prevent inconsistencies. Move cryptographic hashing procedures to crypto folder. (#2306)
Step towards https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/1975 As reported https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/1975#issuecomment-1774534225 I'd like to encapsulate crypto related stuff in a dedicated folder. Currently all cryptographic primitive wrappers are all sparsed in `substrate/core` which contains "misc core" stuff. To simplify the process, as the first step with this PR I propose to move the cryptographic hashing there. The `substrate/crypto` folder was already created to contains `ec-utils` crate. Notes: - rename `sp-core-hashing` to `sp-crypto-hashing` - rename `sp-core-hashing-proc-macro` to `sp-crypto-hashing-proc-macro` - As the crates name is changed I took the freedom to restart fresh from version 0.1.0 for both crates --------- Co-authored-by: Robert Hambrock <roberthambrock@gmail.com> |

XCMv4 (#1230)
# Note for reviewer
Most changes are just syntax changes necessary for the new version.
Most important files should be the ones under the `xcm` folder.
# Description
Added XCMv4.
## Removed `Multi` prefix
The following types have been renamed:
- MultiLocation -> Location
- MultiAsset -> Asset
- MultiAssets -> Assets
- InteriorMultiLocation -> InteriorLocation
- MultiAssetFilter -> AssetFilter
- VersionedMultiAsset -> VersionedAsset
- WildMultiAsset -> WildAsset
- VersionedMultiLocation -> VersionedLocation
In order to fix a name conflict, the `Assets` in `xcm-executor` were
renamed to `HoldingAssets`, as they represent assets in holding.
## Removed `Abstract` asset id
It was not being used anywhere and this simplifies the code.
Now assets are just constructed as follows:
```rust
let asset: Asset = (AssetId(Location::new(1, Here)), 100u128).into();
```
No need for specifying `Concrete` anymore.
## Outcome is now a named fields struct
Instead of
```rust
pub enum Outcome {
Complete(Weight),
Incomplete(Weight, Error),
Error(Error),
}
```
we now have
```rust
pub enum Outcome {
Complete { used: Weight },
Incomplete { used: Weight, error: Error },
Error { error: Error },
}
```
## Added Reanchorable trait
Now both locations and assets implement this trait, making it easier to
reanchor both.
## New syntax for building locations and junctions
Now junctions are built using the following methods:
```rust
let location = Location {
parents: 1,
interior: [Parachain(1000), PalletInstance(50), GeneralIndex(1984)].into()
};
```
or
```rust
let location = Location::new(1, [Parachain(1000), PalletInstance(50), GeneralIndex(1984)]);
```
And they are matched like so:
```rust
match location.unpack() {
(1, [Parachain(id)]) => ...
(0, Here) => ...,
(1, [_]) => ...,
}
```
This syntax is mandatory in v4, and has been also implemented for v2 and
v3 for easier migration.
This was needed to make all sizes smaller.

Add More HRMP Channel Opening Tests (#2915)
A recent referendum failed because the parachain's sovereign account had enough funds for the deposit (the runtime at the time required a deposit) but not enough left over for the existential deposit, which must remain free. The current logic does not require a deposit for channels with system chains, and the current tests check that none is taken. This new test simply ensures that even without any balance in a parachain's sovereign account, opening a channel with a system chain will be successful. |

Unique Usernames in Identity Pallet (#2651)
This PR allows _username authorities_ to issue unique usernames that correspond with an account. It also provides two-way lookup, that is from `AccountId` to a single, "primary" `Username` (alongside `Registration`) and multiple unique `Username`s to an `AccountId`. Key features: - Username Authorities added (and removed) via privileged origin. - Authorities have a `suffix` and an `allocation`. They can grant up to `allocation` usernames. Their `suffix` will be appended to the usernames that they issue. A suffix may be up to 7 characters long. - Users can ask an authority to grant them a username. This will take the form `myusername.suffix`. The entire name (including suffix) must be less than or equal to 32 alphanumeric characters. - Users can approve a username for themselves in one of two ways (that is, authorities cannot grant them arbitrarily): - Pre-sign the entire username (including suffix) with a secret key that corresponds to their `AccountId` (for keyed accounts, obviously); or - Accept the username after it has been granted by an authority (it will be queued until accepted) (for non-keyed accounts like pure proxies or multisigs). - The system does not require any funds or deposits. Users without an identity will be given a default one (presumably all fields set to `None`). If they update this info, they will need to place the normal storage deposit. - If a user does not have any username, their first one will be set as `Primary`, and their `AccountId` will map to that one. If they get subsequent usernames, they can choose which one to be their primary via `set_primary_username`. - There are some state cleanup functions to remove expired usernames that have not been accepted and dangling usernames whose owners have called `clear_identity`. Rococo & Westend People Chain (#2281)
Rococo and Westend runtimes for the "People Chain". This chain contains the Identity pallet with plans to migrate all related data from the Relay Chain. Changes `IdentityInfo` to: - Remove `additional_fields`. - Add `github` and `discord` as first class fields. From scraping chain data, these were the only two additional fields used (for the Fellowship and Ambassador Program, respectively). - Rename `riot` to `matrix`. Note: This will use the script in https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2025 to generate the genesis state. TODO: - [x] https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/1814 and integration of the Identity Migrator pallet for migration. - [x] Tests: https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2373 --------- Co-authored-by: Muharem <ismailov.m.h@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Michal Kucharczyk <1728078+michalkucharczyk@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Dónal Murray <donal.murray@parity.io> Co-authored-by: Richard Melkonian <35300528+0xmovses@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Liam Aharon <liam.aharon@hotmail.com> |

Fix clippy lints behind feature gates and add new CI step all features (#2569)
Many clippy lints usually enforced by `-Dcomplexity` and `-Dcorrectness` are not caught by CI as they are gated by `features`, like `runtime-benchmarks`, while the clippy CI job runs with only the default features for all targets. This PR also adds a CI step to run clippy with `--all-features` to ensure the code quality is maintained behind feature gates from now on. To improve local development, clippy lints are downgraded to warnings, but they still will result in an error at CI due to the `-Dwarnings` rustflag. --------- Co-authored-by: Liam Aharon <liam.aharon@hotmail.com> |

Add Authorize Upgrade Pattern to Frame System (#2682)
Adds the `authorize_upgrade` -> `enact_authorized_upgrade` pattern to `frame-system`. This will be useful for upgrading bridged chains that are under the governance of Polkadot without passing entire runtime Wasm blobs over a bridge. Notes: - Changed `enact_authorized_upgrade` to `apply_authorized_upgrade`. Personal opinion, "apply" more accurately expresses what it's doing. Can change back if outvoted. - Remove `check_version` in favor of two extrinsics, so as to make _checked_ the default. - Left calls in `parachain-system` and marked as deprecated to prevent breaking the API. They just call into the `frame-system` functions. - Updated `frame-system` benchmarks to v2 syntax. --------- Co-authored-by: command-bot <> |

[NPoS] Remove better solution threshold for unsigned submissions (#2694)
closes https://github.com/paritytech-secops/srlabs_findings/issues/78. Removes `BetterUnsignedThreshold` from pallet EPM. This will essentially mean any solution submitted by the validator that is strictly better than the current queued solution would be accepted. The reason for having these thresholds is to limit number of solutions submitted on-chain. However for unsigned submissions, the number of solutions that could be submitted on average is limited even without thresholding (calculation shown in the corresponding issue). |

Add Rococo People <> Rococo Bulletin bridge support to Rococo Bridge Hub (#2540)
This PR adds [Rococo People](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2281) <> [Rococo Bulletin](https://github.com/zdave-parity/polkadot-bulletin-chain) to the Rococo Bridge Hub code. There's a couple of things left to do here: - [x] add remaining tests - it'd need some refactoring in the `bridge-hub-test-utils` - will do in a separate PR; - [x] actually run benchmarks for new messaging pallet (do we have bot nowadays?). The reason why I'm opening it before this ^^^ is ready, is that I'd like to hear others opinion on how to deal with hacks with that bridge. Initially I was assuming that Rococo Bulletin will be the 1:1 copy of the Polkadot Bulletin (to avoid maintaining multiple runtimes/releases/...), so you can see many `PolkadotBulletin` mentions in this PR, even though we are going to bridge with the parallel chain (`RococoBulletin`). That's because e.g. pallet names from `construct_runtime` are affecting runtime storage keys and bridges are using runtime storage proofs => it is important to use names that the Bulletin chain expects. But in the end, this hack won't work - we can't use Polkadot Bulletin runtime to bridge with Rococo Bridge Hub, because Polkadot Bulletin expects Polkadot Bridge hub to use `1002` parachain id and Rococo Bridge Hub seats on the `1013`. This also affects storage keys using in bridging, so I had to add the [`rococo` feature](https://github.com/svyatonik/polkadot-bulletin-chain/blob/add-bridge-pallets/runtime/Cargo.toml#L198) to the Bulletin chain. So now we can actually alter its runtime and adapt it for Rococo. So the question here is - what's better for us here - to leave everything as is (seems hacky and non-trivial); - change Bulletin chain runtime when `rococo` feature is used - e.g. use proper names there (`WithPolkadotGrandpa` -> `WithRococoGrandpa`, ...) - add another set of pallets to the Bulletin chain runtime to bridge with Rococo and never use them in production. Similar to hack that we had in Rococo/Wococo cc @acatangiu @bkontur @serban300 also cc @joepetrowski as the main "client" of this bridge --- A couple words on how this bridge is different from the Rococo <> Westend bridge: - it is a bridge with a chain that uses GRANDPA finality, not the parachain finality (hence the tests needs to be changed); - it is a fee-free bridge. So `AllowExplicitUnpaidExecutionFrom<Equals<SiblingPeople>>` + we are not paying any rewards to relayers (apart from compensating transaction costs). --------- Signed-off-by: dependabot[bot] <support@github.com> Signed-off-by: Andrei Sandu <andrei-mihail@parity.io> Co-authored-by: Adrian Catangiu <adrian@parity.io> Co-authored-by: dependabot[bot] <49699333+dependabot[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Andrei Sandu <54316454+sandreim@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Egor_P <egor@parity.io> Co-authored-by: command-bot <> |
