PG Herveou d38f6e6728 Update benchmarking macros (#3934)
Current benchmarking macro returns a closure with the captured
benchmarked code.
This can cause issues when the benchmarked code has complex lifetime
requirements.

This PR updates the existing macro by injecting the recording parameter
and invoking the start / stop method around the benchmarked block
instead of returning a closure

One other added benefit is that you can write this kind of code now as
well:

```rust
let v;
#[block]
{ v = func.call(); }
dbg!(v); // or assert something on v
```

Viki Val 1c435e91c1 🐛 Depositing PalletAttributeSet on incorrect nft (#2740)
## Context

Implementing `HolderOf(collection_id)` we have observed a fancy glitch
where pallet deposits event with incorrect values

### Test case

[Observe following
extrinsic](https://assethub-polkadot.subscan.io/extrinsic/0xdc72321b7674aa209c2f194ed49bd6bd12708af103f98b5b9196e0132dcba777)

To mint in collection `51` user needs to be `HolderOf(50)`.
Therefore current user is owner of item `394` `witness_data {
owned_item: 394 }`

All checking is done correctly, storage is updated correctly

However the event which is emitted does not make semantic sense as we
updated storage for `50-394` not for `51-114`

## The fix

This PR fixes that depositing `PalletAttributeSet` emits correct values.

Gavin Wood fd5f9292f5 FRAME: Create TransactionExtension as a replacement for SignedExtension (#2280)
Closes #2160

First part of [Extrinsic
Horizon](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/2415)

Introduces a new trait `TransactionExtension` to replace
`SignedExtension`. Introduce the idea of transactions which obey the
runtime's extensions and have according Extension data (né Extra data)
yet do not have hard-coded signatures.

Deprecate the terminology of "Unsigned" when used for
transactions/extrinsics owing to there now being "proper" unsigned
transactions which obey the extension framework and "old-style" unsigned
which do not. Instead we have __*General*__ for the former and
__*Bare*__ for the latter. (Ultimately, the latter will be phased out as
a type of transaction, and Bare will only be used for Inherents.)

Types of extrinsic are now therefore:
- Bare (no hardcoded signature, no Extra data; used to be known as
"Unsigned")
- Bare transactions (deprecated): Gossiped, validated with
`ValidateUnsigned` (deprecated) and the `_bare_compat` bits of
`TransactionExtension` (deprecated).
  - Inherents: Not gossiped, validated with `ProvideInherent`.
- Extended (Extra data): Gossiped, validated via `TransactionExtension`.
  - Signed transactions (with a hardcoded signature).
  - General transactions (without a hardcoded signature).

`TransactionExtension` differs from `SignedExtension` because:
- A signature on the underlying transaction may validly not be present.
- It may alter the origin during validation.
- `pre_dispatch` is renamed to `prepare` and need not contain the checks
present in `validate`.
- `validate` and `prepare` is passed an `Origin` rather than a
`AccountId`.
- `validate` may pass arbitrary information into `prepare` via a new
user-specifiable type `Val`.
- `AdditionalSigned`/`additional_signed` is renamed to
`Implicit`/`implicit`. It is encoded *for the entire transaction* and
passed in to each extension as a new argument to `validate`. This
facilitates the ability of extensions to acts as underlying crypto.

There is a new `DispatchTransaction` trait which contains only default
function impls and is impl'ed for any `TransactionExtension` impler. It
provides several utility functions which reduce some of the tedium from
using `TransactionExtension` (indeed, none of its regular functions
should now need to be called directly).

Three transaction version discriminator ("versions") are now
permissible:
- 0b000000100: Bare (used to be called "Unsigned"): contains Signature
or Extra (extension data). After bare transactions are no longer
supported, this will strictly identify an Inherents only.
- 0b100000100: Old-school "Signed" Transaction: contains Signature and
Extra (extension data).
- 0b010000100: New-school "General" Transaction: contains Extra
(extension data), but no Signature.

For the New-school General Transaction, it becomes trivial for authors
to publish extensions to the mechanism for authorizing an Origin, e.g.
through new kinds of key-signing schemes, ZK proofs, pallet state,
mutations over pre-authenticated origins or any combination of the
above.

## Code Migration

### NOW: Getting it to build

Wrap your `SignedExtension`s in `AsTransactionExtension`. This should be
accompanied by renaming your aggregate type in line with the new
terminology. E.g. Before:

```rust
/// The SignedExtension to the basic transaction logic.
pub type SignedExtra = (
	/* snip */
	MySpecialSignedExtension,
);
/// Unchecked extrinsic type as expected by this runtime.
pub type UncheckedExtrinsic =
	generic::UncheckedExtrinsic<Address, RuntimeCall, Signature, SignedExtra>;
```

After:

```rust
/// The extension to the basic transaction logic.
pub type TxExtension = (
	/* snip */
	AsTransactionExtension<MySpecialSignedExtension>,
);
/// Unchecked extrinsic type as expected by this runtime.
pub type UncheckedExtrinsic =
	generic::UncheckedExtrinsic<Address, RuntimeCall, Signature, TxExtension>;
```

You'll also need to alter any transaction building logic to add a
`.into()` to make the conversion happen. E.g. Before:

```rust
fn construct_extrinsic(
		/* snip */
) -> UncheckedExtrinsic {
	let extra: SignedExtra = (
		/* snip */
		MySpecialSignedExtension::new(/* snip */),
	);
	let payload = SignedPayload::new(call.clone(), extra.clone()).unwrap();
	let signature = payload.using_encoded(|e| sender.sign(e));
	UncheckedExtrinsic::new_signed(
		/* snip */
		Signature::Sr25519(signature),
		extra,
	)
}
```

After:

```rust
fn construct_extrinsic(
		/* snip */
) -> UncheckedExtrinsic {
	let tx_ext: TxExtension = (
		/* snip */
		MySpecialSignedExtension::new(/* snip */).into(),
	);
	let payload = SignedPayload::new(call.clone(), tx_ext.clone()).unwrap();
	let signature = payload.using_encoded(|e| sender.sign(e));
	UncheckedExtrinsic::new_signed(
		/* snip */
		Signature::Sr25519(signature),
		tx_ext,
	)
}
```

### SOON: Migrating to `TransactionExtension`

Most `SignedExtension`s can be trivially converted to become a
`TransactionExtension`. There are a few things to know.

- Instead of a single trait like `SignedExtension`, you should now
implement two traits individually: `TransactionExtensionBase` and
`TransactionExtension`.
- Weights are now a thing and must be provided via the new function `fn
weight`.

#### `TransactionExtensionBase`

This trait takes care of anything which is not dependent on types
specific to your runtime, most notably `Call`.

- `AdditionalSigned`/`additional_signed` is renamed to
`Implicit`/`implicit`.
- Weight must be returned by implementing the `weight` function. If your
extension is associated with a pallet, you'll probably want to do this
via the pallet's existing benchmarking infrastructure.

#### `TransactionExtension`

Generally:
- `pre_dispatch` is now `prepare` and you *should not reexecute the
`validate` functionality in there*!
- You don't get an account ID any more; you get an origin instead. If
you need to presume an account ID, then you can use the trait function
`AsSystemOriginSigner::as_system_origin_signer`.
- You get an additional ticket, similar to `Pre`, called `Val`. This
defines data which is passed from `validate` into `prepare`. This is
important since you should not be duplicating logic from `validate` to
`prepare`, you need a way of passing your working from the former into
the latter. This is it.
- This trait takes two type parameters: `Call` and `Context`. `Call` is
the runtime call type which used to be an associated type; you can just
move it to become a type parameter for your trait impl. `Context` is not
currently used and you can safely implement over it as an unbounded
type.
- There's no `AccountId` associated type any more. Just remove it.

Regarding `validate`:
- You get three new parameters in `validate`; all can be ignored when
migrating from `SignedExtension`.
- `validate` returns a tuple on success; the second item in the tuple is
the new ticket type `Self::Val` which gets passed in to `prepare`. If
you use any information extracted during `validate` (off-chain and
on-chain, non-mutating) in `prepare` (on-chain, mutating) then you can
pass it through with this. For the tuple's last item, just return the
`origin` argument.

Regarding `prepare`:
- This is renamed from `pre_dispatch`, but there is one change:
- FUNCTIONALITY TO VALIDATE THE TRANSACTION NEED NOT BE DUPLICATED FROM
`validate`!!
- (This is different to `SignedExtension` which was required to run the
same checks in `pre_dispatch` as in `validate`.)

Regarding `post_dispatch`:
- Since there are no unsigned transactions handled by
`TransactionExtension`, `Pre` is always defined, so the first parameter
is `Self::Pre` rather than `Option<Self::Pre>`.

If you make use of `SignedExtension::validate_unsigned` or
`SignedExtension::pre_dispatch_unsigned`, then:
- Just use the regular versions of these functions instead.
- Have your logic execute in the case that the `origin` is `None`.
- Ensure your transaction creation logic creates a General Transaction
rather than a Bare Transaction; this means having to include all
`TransactionExtension`s' data.
- `ValidateUnsigned` can still be used (for now) if you need to be able
to construct transactions which contain none of the extension data,
however these will be phased out in stage 2 of the Transactions Horizon,
so you should consider moving to an extension-centric design.

## TODO

- [x] Introduce `CheckSignature` impl of `TransactionExtension` to
ensure it's possible to have crypto be done wholly in a
`TransactionExtension`.
- [x] Deprecate `SignedExtension` and move all uses in codebase to
`TransactionExtension`.
  - [x] `ChargeTransactionPayment`
  - [x] `DummyExtension`
  - [x] `ChargeAssetTxPayment` (asset-tx-payment)
  - [x] `ChargeAssetTxPayment` (asset-conversion-tx-payment)
  - [x] `CheckWeight`
  - [x] `CheckTxVersion`
  - [x] `CheckSpecVersion`
  - [x] `CheckNonce`
  - [x] `CheckNonZeroSender`
  - [x] `CheckMortality`
  - [x] `CheckGenesis`
  - [x] `CheckOnlySudoAccount`
  - [x] `WatchDummy`
  - [x] `PrevalidateAttests`
  - [x] `GenericSignedExtension`
  - [x] `SignedExtension` (chain-polkadot-bulletin)
  - [x] `RefundSignedExtensionAdapter`
- [x] Implement `fn weight` across the board.
- [ ] Go through all pre-existing extensions which assume an account
signer and explicitly handle the possibility of another kind of origin.
- [x] `CheckNonce` should probably succeed in the case of a non-account
origin.
- [x] `CheckNonZeroSender` should succeed in the case of a non-account
origin.
- [x] `ChargeTransactionPayment` and family should fail in the case of a
non-account origin.
  - [ ]
- [x] Fix any broken tests.

Liam Aharon 12ce4f7d04 Runtime Upgrade ref docs and Single Block Migration example pallet (#1554)
Closes https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk-docs/issues/55

- Changes 'current storage version' terminology to less ambiguous
'in-code storage version' (suggestion by @ggwpez)
- Adds a new example pallet `pallet-example-single-block-migrations`
- Adds a new reference doc to replace
https://docs.substrate.io/maintain/runtime-upgrades/ (temporarily living
in the pallet while we wait for developer hub PR to merge)
- Adds documentation for the `storage_alias` macro
- Improves `trait Hooks` docs
- Improves `trait GetStorageVersion` docs
- Update the suggested patterns for using `VersionedMigration`, so that
version unchecked migrations are never exported
- Prevents accidental usage of version unchecked migrations in runtimes

https://github.com/paritytech/substrate/pull/14421#discussion_r1255467895
- Unversioned migration code is kept inside `mod version_unchecked`,
versioned code is kept in `pub mod versioned`
- It is necessary to use modules to limit visibility because the inner
migration must be `pub`. See
https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/30905 and

https://internals.rust-lang.org/t/lang-team-minutes-private-in-public-rules/4504/40
for more.

### todo

- [x] move to reference docs to proper place within sdk-docs (now that
https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2102 is merged)

Gilt0 b78c72cf9c [FRAME Core] remove unnecessary overrides while using derive_impl for frame_system (#3317)
# Description

This PR removes redundant type definition from test definition config
implementations like
```
#[derive_impl(frame_system::config_preludes::TestDefaultConfig as frame_system::DefaultConfig)]
impl frame_system::Config for Test {
    type A = A;
    ...
}
```

This changes avoid redundancies in the code as the macro `derive_impl`
defines the relevant types. To implement the changes, it was a simple
fact of running tests and making sure that the tests would still run
while the definition would be removed.

Oliver Tale-Yazdi e80c24733f Lift dependencies to the workspace (Part 1) (#2070)
Changes (partial https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/994):
- Set log to `0.4.20` everywhere
- Lift `log` to the workspace

Starting with a simpler one after seeing
https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2065 from @jsdw.
This sets the `default-features` to `false` in the root and then
overwrites that in each create to its original value. This is necessary
since otherwise the `default` features are additive and its impossible
to disable them in the crate again once they are enabled in the
workspace.

I am using a tool to do this, so its mostly a test to see that it works
as expected.

Squirrel bc2e5e1fe2 sp-std -> core (#3199)
First in a series of PRs that reduces our use of sp-std with a view to
deprecating it.

This is just looking at /substrate and moving some of the references
from `sp-std` to `core`.
These particular changes should be uncontroversial.

Where macros are used `::core` should be used to remove any ambiguity.

Branislav Kontur bb8ddc46c1 [frame] #[pallet::composite_enum] improved variant count handling + removed pallet_balances's MaxHolds config (#2657)
I started this investigation/issue based on @liamaharon question
[here](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/1801#discussion_r1410452499).

## Problem

The `pallet_balances` integrity test should correctly detect that the
runtime has correct distinct `HoldReasons` variant count. I assume the
same situation exists for RuntimeFreezeReason.

It is not a critical problem, if we set `MaxHolds` with a sufficiently
large value, everything should be ok. However, in this case, the
integrity_test check becomes less useful.

**Situation for "any" runtime:**
- `HoldReason` enums from different pallets:
```rust
        /// from pallet_nis
        #[pallet::composite_enum]
	pub enum HoldReason {
		NftReceipt,
	}
        /// from pallet_preimage
        #[pallet::composite_enum]
	pub enum HoldReason {
		Preimage,
	}
        // from pallet_state-trie-migration
        #[pallet::composite_enum]
	pub enum HoldReason {
		SlashForContinueMigrate,
		SlashForMigrateCustomTop,
		SlashForMigrateCustomChild,
	}
```

- generated `RuntimeHoldReason` enum looks like:
```rust
pub enum RuntimeHoldReason {
    #[codec(index = 32u8)]
    Preimage(pallet_preimage::HoldReason),
    #[codec(index = 38u8)]
    Nis(pallet_nis::HoldReason),
    #[codec(index = 42u8)]
    StateTrieMigration(pallet_state_trie_migration::HoldReason),
}
```

- composite enum `RuntimeHoldReason` variant count is detected as `3`
- we set `type MaxHolds = ConstU32<3>`
- `pallet_balances::integrity_test` is ok with `3`(at least 3)

However, the real problem can occur in a live runtime where some
functionality might stop working. This is due to a total of 5 distinct
hold reasons (for pallets with multi-instance support, it is even more),
and not all of them can be used because of an incorrect `MaxHolds`,
which is deemed acceptable according to the `integrity_test`:
  ```
  // pseudo-code - if we try to call all of these:
T::Currency::hold(&pallet_nis::HoldReason::NftReceipt.into(),
&nft_owner, deposit)?;
T::Currency::hold(&pallet_preimage::HoldReason::Preimage.into(),
&nft_owner, deposit)?;
T::Currency::hold(&pallet_state_trie_migration::HoldReason::SlashForContinueMigrate.into(),
&nft_owner, deposit)?;
  // With `type MaxHolds = ConstU32<3>` these two will fail
T::Currency::hold(&pallet_state_trie_migration::HoldReason::SlashForMigrateCustomTop.into(),
&nft_owner, deposit)?;
T::Currency::hold(&pallet_state_trie_migration::HoldReason::SlashForMigrateCustomChild.into(),
&nft_owner, deposit)?;
  ```

## Solutions

A macro `#[pallet::*]` expansion is extended of `VariantCount`
implementation for the `#[pallet::composite_enum]` enum type. This
expansion generates the `VariantCount` implementation for pallets'
`HoldReason`, `FreezeReason`, `LockId`, and `SlashReason`. Enum variants
must be plain enum values without fields to ensure a deterministic
count.

The composite runtime enum, `RuntimeHoldReason` and
`RuntimeFreezeReason`, now sets `VariantCount::VARIANT_COUNT` as the sum
of pallets' enum `VariantCount::VARIANT_COUNT`:
```rust
#[frame_support::pallet(dev_mode)]
mod module_single_instance {
	#[pallet::composite_enum]
	pub enum HoldReason {
		ModuleSingleInstanceReason1,
		ModuleSingleInstanceReason2,
	}
...
}
#[frame_support::pallet(dev_mode)]
mod module_multi_instance {
	#[pallet::composite_enum]
	pub enum HoldReason<I: 'static = ()> {
		ModuleMultiInstanceReason1,
		ModuleMultiInstanceReason2,
		ModuleMultiInstanceReason3,
	}
...
}
impl self::sp_api_hidden_includes_construct_runtime::hidden_include::traits::VariantCount
    for RuntimeHoldReason
{
    const VARIANT_COUNT: u32 = 0
        + module_single_instance::HoldReason::VARIANT_COUNT
        + module_multi_instance::HoldReason::<module_multi_instance::Instance1>::VARIANT_COUNT
        + module_multi_instance::HoldReason::<module_multi_instance::Instance2>::VARIANT_COUNT
        + module_multi_instance::HoldReason::<module_multi_instance::Instance3>::VARIANT_COUNT;
}
```

In addition, `MaxHolds` is removed (as suggested
[here](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/2657#discussion_r1443324573))
from `pallet_balances`, and its `Holds` are now bounded to
`RuntimeHoldReason::VARIANT_COUNT`. Therefore, there is no need to let
the runtime specify `MaxHolds`.

Squirrel be8e626806 Set clippy lints in workspace (requires rust 1.74) (#2390)
We currently use a bit of a hack in `.cargo/config` to make sure that
clippy isn't too annoying by specifying the list of lints.

There is now a stable way to define lints for a workspace. The only down
side is that every crate seems to have to opt into this so there's a
*few* files modified in this PR.

Dastan 0bcebac4fc Expose collection attributes from Inspect trait (#1914)
# Description

- What does this PR do?

While working with `pallet_nfts` through `nonfungibles_v2` traits
`Inspect, Mutate`, I found out that once you have set the collection
attribute with `<Nfts as Mutate>::set_collection_attribute()`, it's not
possible to read it with `<Nfts as Inspect>::collection_attribute()`
since they use different `namespace` values. When setting the attribute,
`AttributeNamespace::Pallet` is used, while
`AttributeNamespace::CollectionOwner` is used when reading.

more context:
https://github.com/freeverseio/laos/issues/7#issuecomment-1766137370

This PR makes `item` an optional parameter in
`Inspect::system_attribute()`, to be able to read collection attributes.

- Why are these changes needed?

To be able to read collection level attributes when reading attributes
of the collection. It will be possible to read collection attributes by
passing `None` for `item`

- How were these changes implemented and what do they affect?

`NftsApi` is also affected and `NftsApi::system_attribute()` now accepts
optional `item` parameter.

## Breaking change

Because of the change in the `NftsApi::system_attribute()` method's
`item` param, parachains who integrated the `NftsApi` need to update
their API code and frontend integrations accordingly. AssetHubs are
unaffected since the NftsApi wasn't released on those parachains yet.

Oliver Tale-Yazdi 4a44356773 Improve features dev-ex (#1831)
Adds a config file that allows to run `zepter` without any arguments in
the workspace to address all issues.
A secondary workflow for the CI is provided as `zepter run check`. Both
the formatting and linting are now in one check for efficiancy.

The latest version also detects some more things that `featalign` was
already showing.

Error message [in the
CI](https://gitlab.parity.io/parity/mirrors/polkadot-sdk/-/jobs/3916205)
now looks like this:
```pre
...
crate 'test-parachains' (/Users/vados/Documents/work/polkadot-sdk/polkadot/parachain/test-parachains/Cargo.toml)
  feature 'std'
    must propagate to:
      parity-scale-codec
Found 55 issues (run with --fix to fix).
Error: Command 'lint propagate-feature' failed with exit code 1
Polkadot-SDK uses the Zepter CLI to detect abnormalities in the feature configuration.
It looks like one more more checks failed; please check the console output. You can try to automatically address them by running `zepter`.
Otherwise please ask directly in the Merge Request, GitHub Discussions or on Matrix Chat, thank you.
Kian Paimani 35eb133baa Ensure correct variant count in Runtime[Hold/Freeze]Reason (#1900)
closes https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/issues/1882
## Breaking Changes
This PR introduces a new item to `pallet_balances::Config`:
```diff
trait Config {
++    type RuntimeFreezeReasons;
}
```
This value is only used to check it against `type MaxFreeze`. A similar
check has been added for `MaxHolds` against `RuntimeHoldReasons`, which
is already given to `pallet_balances`.
In all contexts, you should pass the real `RuntimeFreezeReasons`
generated by `construct_runtime` to `type RuntimeFreezeReasons`. Passing
`()` would also work, but it would imply that the runtime uses no
freezes at all.
Bastian Köcher f3bf5c1acd xcm: Change TypeInfo::path to not include staging (#1948)
The `xcm` crate was renamed to `staging-xcm` to be able to publish it to
crates.io as someone as squatted `xcm`. The problem with this rename is
that the `TypeInfo` includes the crate name which ultimately lands in
the metadata. The metadata is consumed by downstream users like
`polkadot-js` or people building on top of `polkadot-js`. These people
are using the entire `path` to find the type in the type registry. Thus,
their code would break as the type path would now be [`staging_xcm`,
`VersionedXcm`] instead of [`xcm`, `VersionedXcm`]. This pull request
fixes this by renaming the path segment `staging_xcm` to `xcm`.
This requires: https://github.com/paritytech/scale-info/pull/197
Alex Bean 3aaf62add4 Trading trait and deal with metadata in Mutate trait for nonfungibles_v2 (#1561)
I have added some Traits that are missing and are useful for dealing
with non-fungible tokens on other pallets and their implementations for
NFTs pallet.
- In the Mutate trait, added methods for dealing with the metadata:
`set_metadata`, `set_collection_metadata`, `clear_metadata` and
`clear_collection_metadata`.
The motivation of adding this methods coming from a StackExchange
question asking for it: [Setting metadata of an item of the Nfts pallet
in a custom
pallet](https://substrate.stackexchange.com/questions/9974/setting-metadata-of-an-item-of-the-nfts-pallet-in-a-custom-pallet)
- A Trait for trading non-fungible items. The methods in that Trait are
`buy_item`, `set_price` and `item_price`
An example of where this Trait can be useful is a pallet that deals with
[NFT
Royalties](https://forum.polkadot.network/t/nfts-royalty-pallet/3766)
and needs to perform this actions.
Liam Aharon db3fd68726 Init System Parachain storage versions and add migration check jobs to CI (#1344)
Makes SPs first class citizens along with the relay chains in the
context of our CI runtime upgrade checks.
## Code changes
- Sets missing current storage version in `uniques` pallet
- Adds multisig V1 migration to run where it was missing
- Removes executed migration whos pre/post hooks were failing from
collectives runtime
- Initializes storage versions for SP pallets added after genesis
- Originally I was going to wait for
https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/1297 to be merged so
this wouldn't need to be done manually, but it doesn't seem like it'll
be merged any time soon so I've decided to set them manually to unblock
this
## CI changes
- Removed dependency of `westend` runtime upgrades being complete prior
to other ones running. I assume it is supposed to cache the
`try-runtime` build for a performance benefit, but it seems it wasn't
working. Maybe someone from the CI team can look into this or explain
why it needs to be there?
- Adds check-runtime-migration jobs for Parity asset-hubs, bridge-hubs
and contract chains
- Updated VARIABLES to accomodate the `kusama-runtime` package being
renamed to `staging-kusama-runtime` in
https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/1241
- Added `EXTRA_ARGS` variable to `check-runtime-migration`, and set
`--no-weight-warnings` to the relay chain runtime upgrade checks (relay
chains don't have weight restrictions).
