* `decl_runtime_apis!` - check that a method without `changed_in` exists
This adds another check to the macro that ensures that not only methods
with `changed_in` exists, but there are also the default methods exist.

* Add new RPC method to get the chain type
This adds a new RPC method to get the chain type of the running chain.
The chain type needs to be specified in the chain spec. This should make
it easier for tools/UI to display extra information without needing to
rely on parsing the chain name.

There was a bug in determining the correct git files that should be
tracked. The ref extracted from `.git/HEAD` pointed to a relative path
and thus could not be found by cargo and resulted in always recompiling
the binary.
* Make `application-crypto` `std` feature internal
The macros should not generate code that requires that the calling crate
has a feature with the name `std` defined.
* Use a proper panic!
This pr ensures that we don't panic because of a deadline that is
already reached in basic authorship. This is mainly useful for debug
builds, as release builds normally don't have debug assertions enabled.
* Implements mocking of runtime apis
This pr adds support for easily mock runtime api implementations for
tests by using the `mock_impl_runtime_apis!` macro. The syntax is
similar to `impl_runtime_apis!`. The mocked implementation automatically
implements `ApiExt`, `ApiErrorExt` and `Core` as these are required by
the runtime api traits, but not required in tests or only a subset of them.

The signal handler will be reset to the default system one. This means
the program will be exited instead of panicking. This is required to
support piping in the console.
* Enable `wasmtime` only for `x86_64` in substrate node
When using the new feature of cargo `cargo build -Z features=itarget`,
the `wasmtime` feature will not bleed into the build for other
architectures.
* Use new cargo feature in CI
Currently when we connect to a bootnode and it returns a different peer
id, than the one we provided, we disconnect silently. This pr changes
the behavior to printing an error when a bootnode returns a different
peer id than the provided one.
* Adds new event phase `Initialization`
Every event that was deposited inside of `on_initialize` was assigned to
the `ApplyExtrinsic(0)` phase which wasn't correct. This pr introduces a
new phase `Initialization`. This is the new phase while initializing
a block. After initialization we switch to `ApplyExtrinsic(N)` and at
the end to `Finalization` as before.
* Set `ExecutionPhase` in `initialize`
* Increment `spec_version`
* Make sure frame examples compile for wasm
This makes sure that `frame-example` and `frame-example-offchain-worker`
compile for wasm.
This also fixes compilation for these crates. The offchain worker
example doesn't use serde-json anymore as that is too heavy and breaks
`no_std` compilation.

* Move runtime upgrade to `frame-executive`
Instead of storing the runtime upgraded in the space of `frame-system`,
this moves it to `frame-executive`. We also start storing the
`spec_version` and `impl_version` the last runtime upgrade was applied.
This scheme has multiple advantages:
- We don't need to make sure that runtime upgrade was set.
- This will work in the future when we want to test a runtime upgrade,
because the `on_runtime_upgrade` will be executed automatically when the
runtime changes.
* Move `LAST_RUNTIME_UPGRADE` key to `frame-executive`
* Add some more documentation
* Make sure `spec_version` always increases between runtime upgrades
* Fix test
* Upgrade `parity-multiaddr` to fix compilation
* Also check if the `spec_name` changed
* Remove `RuntimeUpgraded` storage entry
* Don't run on genesis
Up to now `wasm-builder` iterated over all packages that were not part
of the wasm workspace and added the files to the `rerun-if-changed`
list. However, this included to many files and resulted in needless
re-compilations in `Cumulus` for example.

Instead of just testing `cargo` and `rustup run nightly`, we now test
the `CARGO` env variable and also scan non default nightlies. The user
is also now able to select the toolchain with `WASM_BUILD_TOOLCHAIN`.
This prs cleans up some of the frame benchmarking stuff:
- Move CLI into `frame-benchmarking-cli`. No frame related CLI should
exists in the default Substrate CLI.
- Move all traits and types related to frame benchmarking into the
`frame-benchmarking` trait. Frame types should be isolated in Frame.
This removes the following syntactic sugar from `construct_runtime!`:
- Expansion of `default` to the default set of module parts
- Expansion of `System: system` to the default set of module parts
The macro now requires the user to provide all the module parts of a pallet.
* Adds `with_pair!` macro to application-crypto
This macro will "generate" the given code only when the crypto pair is
available. So, when either the `std` or the `full_crypto` feature is
enabled.
* Fix example
* Adds a test to ensure that we clear the heap between calls into runtime
The tests shows that we currently not clearing the heap in wasmtime.
For now we don't run the test for wasmtime.
* Fix compilation
* Fix CLI setup again
We need to set `config_dir` and `database_path` for almost every
command.
This fixes `purge-chain` and also adds a test to make sure we don't
break it again.
* Adds missing test files
* Split methods
* FreeingBumpAllocator: Initialize the heads to `u32::max_value()`
`self.heads` can point to an element with the index `0` in the heap.
This would make the allocator fail to reuse this element.
* Simplify the `PREFIX_SIZE` handling
* Fix memory leak in runtime interface
We used `slice::from_raw_parts` in runtime-interface which did not free
the memory afterwards. This pr changes it to `Vec::from_raw_parts` to
make sure `drop` is called properly and the values are freed.
* Check that `len` is non-zero
* Adds comment
When messing with the signature, we need to make sure that we acutally
mess-up the signature. As the generated private/public key is random,
the signature is random as well. It can happen that `bytes[0] ==
bytes[2]` which makes the test fail. We fix this problem by just
inverting the bytes at `0` and `2`.
* Expose information about the extrinsic in the metadata
This pr exposes some information about the extrinsic used in the runtime
via metadata. The following information are exposed:
- Version of the extrinsic
- List of all signed extensions used by the extrinsic.
* Increment `spec_version`
* Print extrinsic failed error always, not just on import
Before we printed the error of a transaction only when importing a
block, this pr changes it to print the error also at building the block.
* Increment `impl_version`
* WASM runtime switch to import memory
Up to now runtimes have exported their memory. To unify it with
sandboxing, this pr switches runtimes to import memory as well.
From a functional perspective, exporting/importing memory makes no
difference to the runtime.
To provide backwards compatibility, WASM exported memory is still supported.
* Revert debug stuff
* Revert some stuff
* Introduces `author_hasKey` and `author_hasSessionKeys` rpc endpoints
Both endpoints can be used to check if a key is present in the keystore.
- `hasKey` works on with an individual public key and key type. It
checks if a private key for the given combination exists in the
keystore.
- `hasSessionKeys` works with the full encoded session key blob stored
on-chain in `nextKeys`. This requires that the given blob can be decoded
by the runtime. It will return `true`, iff all public keys of the
session key exist in the storage.

This moves the wasm-allocator (`FreeingBumpHeapAllocator`) into its own
crate `sp-allocator`. This new crate can theoretically provide multiple
different allocators. Besides moving the allocator, this pr also makes
`FreeingBumpHeapAllocator` compile on `no_std`.
* Support `u128`/`i128` in runtime interface
This implements support for `u128`/`i128` as parameters/return value in
runtime interfaces. As we can not pass them as identity, as for the
other primitives types, we pass them as an pointer to an `[u8; 16]` array.
* Remove some unsafe code usage
* Make debug builds more usable
This pr makes debug builds more usable in terms of `cargo run -- --dev`.
1. `--dev` activates `--execution native`, iff `--execution` is not
given or no sub `--execution-*` is given.
2. It was probably a mistake to compile WASM in debug for a debug build.
So, we now build the WASM binary always as `release` (if not requested
differently by the user). So, we trade compilation time for a better
debug experience.
* Make sure we only overwrite default values
* Make it work
* Apply suggestion
Some fixes after: https://github.com/paritytech/substrate/pull/4502
This removes the unwanted `expect`s from `MultiSigner`. Instead we
convert from full to compressed in `TryFrom` and can return an error on
invalid input.
By using `cfg(doc)`, we can generate docs for modules which are only
available from `no_std`. This drastically improves the documentation for
the developers.
* Implement runtime version checks in `set_code`
Check that the new runtime code given to `set_code` fullfills some
requirements:
- `spec_name` matches
- `spec_version` does not decreases
- `impl_version` does not decreases
- Either `spec_version` and `impl_version` increase

* Make wasm-builder remove invalid members

required manual fixing.

* Fix cli for structopt 0.3.7 and pin to that version
This is just some hotfix to make everything compile. In the future it
will require another pr to not depend on internals of StructOpt, but
that will probably also require some additions to StructOpt itself. To
not break the code again with another StructOpt, this also pins the
StructOpt version.
* Fix benches
* Fix for fix
* Make `decl_error!` errors usable
This pr implements support for returning errors of different pallets in
a pallet. These errors need to be declared with `decl_error!`.
The pr changes the following:
- Each dispatchable function now returns a `DispatchResult` which is an
alias for `Result<(), DispatchError>`.
- `DispatchError` is an enum that has 4 variants:
- `Other`: For storing string error messages
- `CannotLookup`: Variant that is returned when something returns a
`sp_runtime::LookupError`
- `BadOrigin`: Variant that is returned for any kind of bad origin
- `Module`: The error of a specific module. Contains the `index`,
`error` and the `message`. The index is the index of the module in
`construct_runtime!`. `error` is the index of the error in the error
enum declared by `decl_error!`. `message` is the message to the error
variant (this will not be encoded).
- `construct_runtime!` now creates a new struct `ModuleToIndex`. This
struct implements the trait `ModuleToIndex`.
- `frame_system::Trait` has a new associated type: `ModuleToIndex` that
expects the `ModuleToIndex` generated by `construct_runtime!`.
- All error strings returned in any module are being converted now to `DispatchError`.
- `BadOrigin` is the default error returned by any type that implements `EnsureOrigin`.

Currently the runtime interface enforces `H256` as hash type, but in the

already required.
