Configure concurrency for e2e tests to fix flakiness (#530)
We experienced flakiness in the e2e tests after bumping the revive-differential-tests submodule which included changes to the global RPC concurrency limiter and batching layer. This PR attempts to fix the flakiness by lowering the number of concurrent tasks spawned. |

Bump axios from 1.15.0 to 1.16.0 (#518)
Bumps [axios](https://github.com/axios/axios) from 1.15.0 to 1.16.0. <details> <summary>Release notes</summary> <p><em>Sourced from <a href="https://github.com/axios/axios/releases">axios's releases</a>.</em></p> <blockquote> <h2>v1.16.0 — May 2, 2026</h2> <p>This release adds support for the QUERY HTTP method and a new <code>ECONNREFUSED</code> error constant, lands a substantial wave of HTTP, fetch, and XHR adapter bug fixes around redirects, aborts, headers, and timeouts, and welcomes 23 new contributors.</p> <h2>⚠️ Notable Changes</h2> <p>A handful of fixes in this release are either security-adjacent or change observable behaviour. Please review before upgrading:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Fetch adapter now enforces <code>maxBodyLength</code> and <code>maxContentLength</code>.</strong> These limits were silently ignored on the fetch adapter prior to 1.16.0 — anyone relying on them as a safety net (DoS protection, accidental large uploads) had no protection. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10795">#10795</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Proxy requests now preserve user-supplied <code>Host</code> headers.</strong> Previously, the proxy path could overwrite a custom <code>Host</code>. Virtual-host-style routing through a proxy will now behave correctly. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10822">#10822</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Basic auth credentials embedded in URLs are now URL-decoded.</strong> If you have percent-encoded credentials in a URL (e.g. <code>https://user:p%40ss@host</code>), the decoded value is what now goes on the wire. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10825">#10825</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong><code>parseProtocol</code> now strictly requires a colon in the protocol separator.</strong> Strings that loosely parsed as protocols before may no longer match. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10729">#10729</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Deprecated <code>unescape()</code> replaced with modern UTF-8 encoding.</strong> Non-ASCII URL handling is now spec-correct; consumers depending on legacy <code>unescape()</code> quirks may see different output bytes. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7378">#7378</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong><code>transformRequest</code> input typing change was reverted.</strong> The typing change introduced in <a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10745">#10745</a> was reverted in <a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10810">#10810</a> after follow-up review — net behavior is unchanged from 1.15.2. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10745">#10745</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10810">#10810</a></strong>)</li> </ul> <h2>🚀 New Features</h2> <ul> <li><strong>QUERY HTTP Method:</strong> Added support for the QUERY HTTP method across adapters and type definitions. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10802">#10802</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>ECONNREFUSED Error Constant:</strong> Exposed <code>ECONNREFUSED</code> as a constant on <code>AxiosError</code> so callers can match connection-refused failures without comparing string literals (closes <a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/6485">#6485</a>). (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10680">#10680</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Encode Helper Export:</strong> Exported the internal <code>encode</code> helper from <code>buildURL</code> so userland param serializers can reuse the same encoding logic that axios uses internally. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/6897">#6897</a></strong>)</li> </ul> <h2>🐛 Bug Fixes</h2> <ul> <li><strong>HTTP Adapter — Redirects & Headers:</strong> Cleared stale headers when a redirect targets a no-proxy host, fixed the redirect listener chain so listeners no longer stack across hops, restored the missing <code>requestDetails</code> argument on <code>beforeRedirect</code>, preserved user-supplied <code>Host</code> headers when forwarding through a proxy, and properly URL-decoded basic auth credentials. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10794">#10794</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10800">#10800</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/6241">#6241</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10822">#10822</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10825">#10825</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>HTTP Adapter — Streams & Timeouts:</strong> Preserved the partial response object on <code>AxiosError</code> when a stream is aborted after headers arrive, honoured the <code>timeout</code> option during the connect phase when redirects are disabled, and resolved an unsettled-promise hang when an aborted request was combined with compression and <code>maxRedirects: 0</code>. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10708">#10708</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10819">#10819</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7149">#7149</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Fetch Adapter:</strong> Enforced <code>maxBodyLength</code> / <code>maxContentLength</code> in the fetch adapter, set the <code>User-Agent</code> header to match the HTTP adapter, preserved the original abort reason instead of replacing it with a generic error, and deferred global access so importing the module no longer throws a <code>TypeError</code> in restricted environments. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10795">#10795</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10772">#10772</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10806">#10806</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7260">#7260</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>XHR Adapter:</strong> Unsubscribed the <code>cancelToken</code> and <code>AbortSignal</code> listeners on the error, timeout, and abort code paths to prevent leaked subscriptions. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10787">#10787</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Error Handling:</strong> Attached the parsed response to <code>AxiosError</code> when <code>JSON.parse</code> fails inside <code>dispatchRequest</code>, prevented <code>settle</code> from emitting <code>undefined</code> error codes, and tightened the <code>parseProtocol</code> regex to require a colon in the protocol separator. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10724">#10724</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7276">#7276</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10729">#10729</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Types & Exports:</strong> Aligned the CommonJS <code>CancelToken</code> typings with the ESM build, fixed a compiler error caused by <code>RawAxiosHeaders</code>, and re-exported <code>create</code> from the package index. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7414">#7414</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/6389">#6389</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/6460">#6460</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>UTF-8 Encoding:</strong> Replaced the deprecated <code>unescape()</code> call with a modern UTF-8 encoding implementation. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7378">#7378</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Misc Cleanup:</strong> Resolved a batch of small inconsistencies and gadget-level issues across the codebase. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10833">#10833</a></strong>)</li> </ul> <h2>🔧 Maintenance & Chores</h2> <ul> <li><strong>Refactor — ES6 Modernisation:</strong> Modernised the <code>utils</code> module and XHR adapter to use ES6 features, and tidied the multipart boundary error message. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10588">#10588</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7419">#7419</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Tests:</strong> Hardened the HTTP test server lifecycle to fix flaky <code>FormData</code> EPIPE failures, fixed Win32 platform support for the pipe tests, and corrected an incorrect test assumption. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10820">#10820</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10791">#10791</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10796">#10796</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Docs:</strong> Documented <code>paramsSerializer.encode</code> for strict RFC 3986 query encoding, updated the <code>parseReviver</code> TypeScript definitions and configuration docs for ES2023, added timeout guidance to the README's first async example, and expanded notes around the recent type changes. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10821">#10821</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10782">#10782</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10759">#10759</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10804">#10804</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Reverted:</strong> Reverted the <code>transformRequest</code> input typing change from <a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10745">#10745</a> after follow-up review. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10745">#10745</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10810">#10810</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Dependencies:</strong> Bumped <code>actions/setup-node</code>, the <code>github-actions</code> group, and <code>postcss</code> (in <code>/docs</code>) to their latest versions. (truncated)</p> </details> <details> <summary>Changelog</summary> <p><em>Sourced from <a href="https://github.com/axios/axios/blob/v1.x/CHANGELOG.md">axios's changelog</a>.</em></p> <blockquote> <h2>v1.16.0 — May 2, 2026</h2> <p>This release adds support for the QUERY HTTP method and a new <code>ECONNREFUSED</code> error constant, lands a substantial wave of HTTP, fetch, and XHR adapter bug fixes around redirects, aborts, headers, and timeouts, and welcomes 23 new contributors.</p> <h2>⚠️ Notable Changes</h2> <p>A handful of fixes in this release are either security-adjacent or change observable behaviour. Please review before upgrading:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Fetch adapter now enforces <code>maxBodyLength</code> and <code>maxContentLength</code>.</strong> These limits were silently ignored on the fetch adapter prior to 1.16.0 — anyone relying on them as a safety net (DoS protection, accidental large uploads) had no protection. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10795">#10795</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Proxy requests now preserve user-supplied <code>Host</code> headers.</strong> Previously, the proxy path could overwrite a custom <code>Host</code>. Virtual-host-style routing through a proxy will now behave correctly. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10822">#10822</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Basic auth credentials embedded in URLs are now URL-decoded.</strong> If you have percent-encoded credentials in a URL (e.g. <code>https://user:p%40ss@host</code>), the decoded value is what now goes on the wire. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10825">#10825</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong><code>parseProtocol</code> now strictly requires a colon in the protocol separator.</strong> Strings that loosely parsed as protocols before may no longer match. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10729">#10729</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Deprecated <code>unescape()</code> replaced with modern UTF-8 encoding.</strong> Non-ASCII URL handling is now spec-correct; consumers depending on legacy <code>unescape()</code> quirks may see different output bytes. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7378">#7378</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong><code>transformRequest</code> input typing change was reverted.</strong> The typing change introduced in <a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10745">#10745</a> was reverted in <a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10810">#10810</a> after follow-up review — net behavior is unchanged from 1.15.2. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10745">#10745</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10810">#10810</a></strong>)</li> </ul> <h2>🚀 New Features</h2> <ul> <li><strong>QUERY HTTP Method:</strong> Added support for the QUERY HTTP method across adapters and type definitions. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10802">#10802</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>ECONNREFUSED Error Constant:</strong> Exposed <code>ECONNREFUSED</code> as a constant on <code>AxiosError</code> so callers can match connection-refused failures without comparing string literals (closes <a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/6485">#6485</a>). (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10680">#10680</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Encode Helper Export:</strong> Exported the internal <code>encode</code> helper from <code>buildURL</code> so userland param serializers can reuse the same encoding logic that axios uses internally. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/6897">#6897</a></strong>)</li> </ul> <h2>🐛 Bug Fixes</h2> <ul> <li><strong>HTTP Adapter — Redirects & Headers:</strong> Cleared stale headers when a redirect targets a no-proxy host, fixed the redirect listener chain so listeners no longer stack across hops, restored the missing <code>requestDetails</code> argument on <code>beforeRedirect</code>, preserved user-supplied <code>Host</code> headers when forwarding through a proxy, and properly URL-decoded basic auth credentials. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10794">#10794</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10800">#10800</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/6241">#6241</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10822">#10822</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10825">#10825</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>HTTP Adapter — Streams & Timeouts:</strong> Preserved the partial response object on <code>AxiosError</code> when a stream is aborted after headers arrive, honoured the <code>timeout</code> option during the connect phase when redirects are disabled, and resolved an unsettled-promise hang when an aborted request was combined with compression and <code>maxRedirects: 0</code>. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10708">#10708</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10819">#10819</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7149">#7149</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Fetch Adapter:</strong> Enforced <code>maxBodyLength</code> / <code>maxContentLength</code> in the fetch adapter, set the <code>User-Agent</code> header to match the HTTP adapter, preserved the original abort reason instead of replacing it with a generic error, and deferred global access so importing the module no longer throws a <code>TypeError</code> in restricted environments. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10795">#10795</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10772">#10772</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10806">#10806</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7260">#7260</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>XHR Adapter:</strong> Unsubscribed the <code>cancelToken</code> and <code>AbortSignal</code> listeners on the error, timeout, and abort code paths to prevent leaked subscriptions. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10787">#10787</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Error Handling:</strong> Attached the parsed response to <code>AxiosError</code> when <code>JSON.parse</code> fails inside <code>dispatchRequest</code>, prevented <code>settle</code> from emitting <code>undefined</code> error codes, and tightened the <code>parseProtocol</code> regex to require a colon in the protocol separator. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10724">#10724</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7276">#7276</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10729">#10729</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Types & Exports:</strong> Aligned the CommonJS <code>CancelToken</code> typings with the ESM build, fixed a compiler error caused by <code>RawAxiosHeaders</code>, and re-exported <code>create</code> from the package index. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7414">#7414</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/6389">#6389</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/6460">#6460</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>UTF-8 Encoding:</strong> Replaced the deprecated <code>unescape()</code> call with a modern UTF-8 encoding implementation. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7378">#7378</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Misc Cleanup:</strong> Resolved a batch of small inconsistencies and gadget-level issues across the codebase. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10833">#10833</a></strong>)</li> </ul> <h2>🔧 Maintenance & Chores</h2> <ul> <li><strong>Refactor — ES6 Modernisation:</strong> Modernised the <code>utils</code> module and XHR adapter to use ES6 features, and tidied the multipart boundary error message. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10588">#10588</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/7419">#7419</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Tests:</strong> Hardened the HTTP test server lifecycle to fix flaky <code>FormData</code> EPIPE failures, fixed Win32 platform support for the pipe tests, and corrected an incorrect test assumption. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10820">#10820</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10791">#10791</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10796">#10796</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Docs:</strong> Documented <code>paramsSerializer.encode</code> for strict RFC 3986 query encoding, updated the <code>parseReviver</code> TypeScript definitions and configuration docs for ES2023, added timeout guidance to the README's first async example, and expanded notes around the recent type changes. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10821">#10821</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10782">#10782</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10759">#10759</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10804">#10804</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Reverted:</strong> Reverted the <code>transformRequest</code> input typing change from <a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10745">#10745</a> after follow-up review. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10745">#10745</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10810">#10810</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Dependencies:</strong> Bumped <code>actions/setup-node</code>, the <code>github-actions</code> group, and <code>postcss</code> (in <code>/docs</code>) to their latest versions. (<strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10785">#10785</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10813">#10813</a></strong>, <strong><a href="https://redirect.github.com/axios/axios/issues/10814">#10814</a></strong>)</li> <li><strong>Release:</strong> Updated changelog and packages, and prepared the 1.16.0 release. Implement verification of reproducible builds and run differential E2E tests (#468)
## Description This adds verification for reproducible builds (via [revive-differential-tests](https://github.com/paritytech/revive-differential-tests) testing framework) by: 1. Compiling [contracts](https://github.com/paritytech/resolc-compiler-tests/tree/main/fixtures/solidity) and generating hashes from each bytecode * With the resolc builds: * linux musl * macos universal * windows * (future todo: wasm32 emscripten) * With optimization levels `0`, `3`, `z` for each contract 2. Exporting the hashes 3. Comparing the hashes * For each optimization level: * Checks if each hash for a specific contract is identical across the platforms This PR also runs the differential E2E tests (via `retester`) with the resolc linux musl build. All of the above only runs if our `test` workflow succeeds. ## Related This PR initially implemented the above in this repo but has now been implemented into the separate testing framework instead. The most relevant PRs implemented alongside this PR as prerequisites are: * `revive-differential-tests`: * [Generate bytecode hashes included in the report ](https://github.com/paritytech/revive-differential-tests/pull/238) * [Fix handling of resolc's optimizer `mode` and allow setting solc optimizer enabled](https://github.com/paritytech/revive-differential-tests/pull/243) * [Fix solc and resolc optimization settings](https://github.com/paritytech/revive-differential-tests/pull/253) * [Implement a `compile` context/subcommand for standalone compilation mode](https://github.com/paritytech/revive-differential-tests/pull/239) * [Implement support for `--mode` CLI argument for `compile`](https://github.com/paritytech/revive-differential-tests/pull/246) * [Implement `export-hashes` and `compare-hashes` subcommands for report processor ](https://github.com/paritytech/revive-differential-tests/pull/250) * [Implement GH actions for compiling, exporting and comparing hashes](https://github.com/paritytech/revive-differential-tests/pull/251) * [Gate zombienet-sdk behind `cfg(unix)` to fix Windows builds](https://github.com/paritytech/revive-differential-tests/pull/254) * [Link library-using contracts with dummy addresses for `--compile` command](https://github.com/paritytech/revive-differential-tests/pull/267) * `revive`: * [Build LLVM for Windows using MSVC-compatible Clang](https://github.com/paritytech/revive/pull/497) * [Apply LLVM patches for deterministic operand order and correct peephole optimization for `minsize` ](https://github.com/paritytech/revive/pull/500) * Investigation of comparison mismatches in third-party dependencies: * `llvm-project`: * [`SelectionDAG` type legalization produces different operand ordering for `i256` multiply across platforms](https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/issues/190148) * `solidity`: * [Windows absolute paths in standard JSON break import resolution and library linking](https://github.com/argotorg/solidity/issues/16579) ## Notes ### Failed compilations Since [resolc-compiler-tests](https://github.com/paritytech/resolc-compiler-tests) currently includes contracts that are expected to fail resolc compilation (e.g. due to unsupported instructions, contracts that are expected to work with solc for evm/revm), the compilation workflow job is not expected to fail if compilation fails for a contract. Instead, if a contract compiles with one build but not with another, a hash will be missing and will thereby generate a mismatch when comparing all hashes, failing at the verification step. ## Resolved Issues Closes [#175](https://github.com/paritytech/revive/issues/175) |

Remove stripping of minsize attribute for functions with 256-bit integer division (#501)
## Description We previously had a workaround to strip `minsize` attributes for functions with 256-bit integer division due to a crash in the LLVM backend. We now [patch](https://github.com/paritytech/revive/pull/500) LLVM with the fix, allowing us to use `minsize` with correct backend optimization, making the workaround unnecessary. |

## Description Applies LLVM patches that have not been backported to the major version used in our submodule: * [LLVM PR #163679](https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/163679) * *"[RISCV] Allow large div peephole optimization for minsize"* * Fixes peephole optimization of large integers when `minsize` function attribute is set. * (Our revive codebase used a workaround that can be removed once this 500 PR is merged and we publish a new LLVM release.) * [LLVM PR #190219](https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/190219) * *"[TargetLowering] Speculative fix for a non-determinism issue between different compilers"* * Operand ordering of `mul i256` were different depending on the target ABI when building LLVM, producing different RISC-V and PVM bytecode for our Windows vs macOS/linux builds. * The bytecode divergence (yet functionally equivalent) affected Solidity contracts containing a value [multiplied by itself](https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/issues/190148) (e.g. via explicit squaring or exponentiation), manifesting primarily when using optimization level `-O0`. |

Build LLVM for Windows using MSVC-compatible Clang (#497)
## Description Switches the Windows LLVM build from Visual Studio to `clang-cl` + `lld-link` (Clang's MSVC-compatible drivers) with Ninja. This is in order to better match the Clang toolchain used on our Linux and macOS variants, while keeping the MSVC ABI. It also speeds up the build time by at least 2x on Windows. |

Provide unique name from closures with same name (#488)
In YUL it's possible to declare closure with a same name, but in different scope, which previously resulted to func name conflict during LLVM IR construction. To solve this, track YUL scope when building LLVM IR and a special counter that increments every time function with the same name exists in LLVM module. There's still assert if somehow within the same scope there 2 functions with the same name, which should be forbidden by Yul Fixes: #474 --------- Co-authored-by: LJ <81748770+elle-j@users.noreply.github.com> |

Bump minimatch, eslint and typescript-eslint (#480)
Bumps [minimatch](https://github.com/isaacs/minimatch) to 10.2.2 and updates ancestor dependencies [minimatch](https://github.com/isaacs/minimatch), [eslint](https://github.com/eslint/eslint) and [typescript-eslint](https://github.com/typescript-eslint/typescript-eslint/tree/HEAD/packages/typescript-eslint). These dependencies need to be updated together. Fix Yul mode discarding solc validation errors (#478)
In `--yul` mode, resolc now properly exits when solc reports validation errors (e.g., invalid hex literals, variable redeclarations), matching `--standard-json behavior.` `runs_without_input_file` was adapted because it was relying on it where the new behavior correctly matches solc --strict-assembly. Previously, it was possible to craft input that would cause unbounded recursion. Now, the depth of the recursion is tracked, causing an error to be returned if it exceeds a reasonable limit.</p> <p>This attack vector requires parsing user-provided input, with any type, using the RFC 2822 format.</p> </li> </ul> <h3>Compatibility</h3> <ul> <li>Attempting to format a value with a well-known format (i.e. RFC 3339, RFC 2822, or ISO 8601) will error at compile time if the type being formatted does not provide sufficient information. Improve compilation time in standard JSON mode and honor requested output (#461)
# Description
Compilation times for resolc were significantly slower than solc when:
* Multiple files were included in the JSON input file via
`--standard-json`
* And none of the files requested code generation
* (If only a subset of files requested code generation, both resolc and
solc were very slow)
Reason:
* Resolc unconditionally generated bytecode for all contracts, even if
not requested.
* When compiling to PolkaVM bytecode, we need to pass additional flags
(e.g. `irOptimized`) to solc. If these flags were not explicitly
requested, resolc also added these to the requested output since PolkaVM
bytecode was always generated.
## Breaking Changes
The following changes are breaking, but fix the semantics to match its
intended behavior:
* Compiling with `--standard-json` now compiles to PolkaVM bytecode
***only*** for the contracts explicitly requested in the
`outputSelection`.
* Compiling with `--standard-json` now outputs ***only*** the explicitly
requested output (e.g. `evm.assembly`, `evm.bytecode`, `ast`, etc.).
```jsonc
// Example:
{
"settings": {
// ...
"outputSelection": {
"src/common/GasService.sol": {
// Contracts in this file will generate bytecode.
// Only these fields of the JSON output selection will be in the `contracts` output.
"*": ["abi", "evm.methodIdentifiers", "metadata", "evm.bytecode"],
// Only this field of the JSON output selection will be in the `sources` output.
"": ["ast"]
},
"src/common/Gateway.sol": {
// No contracts in this file will generate bytecode.
"*": ["abi", "evm.methodIdentifiers", "metadata"],
// No `ast` will be in the `sources` output (only the automatically added `id`,
// similar to solc as this is not a configurable output selection).
"": []
},
}
}
}
```
## Performance Improvements
When e.g. the standard JSON input file includes multiple files and
requests output for every contract as per this setting:
```jsonc
{
"settings": {
// ...
"optimizer": { "enabled": true, "runs": 1 },
"viaIR": true,
"outputSelection": {
"src/common/GasService.sol": {
"*": ["abi", "evm.methodIdentifiers", "metadata", "evm.bytecode"],
},
// Rest of files..
}
}
}
```
The differences in compilation times depending on whether `evm.bytecode`
is selected in every file, one file, or no files can be seen below:
| Solc Optimizer (runs=1) | ViaIR | Request `abi`,
`evm.methodIdentifiers`, `metadata` | Request `evm.bytecode` | resolc
before | resolc after | solc v0.8.33 |
|:-----------------------:|:-----:|:---------:|:---------:|:-------------:|:------------:|:----------:|
| ✅ | ✅ | All files | All files | `~14.5s` | `~14.5s` | `~13.5s` |
| ✅ | ✅ | All files | One file | `~14.5s` | `~450ms` | `~13.5s` |
| ✅ | ✅ | All files | No files | `~14.5s` | `~390ms` | `~350ms` |
**Observations:**
* `resolc before` is roughly the same no matter the request
* This is due to unconditionally generating bytecode
* When not requesting bytecode for any contracts:
* `resolc after` now compiles in ~390ms (vs ~14.5s), similar to `solc`
* Neither `solc` nor `resolc after` generates bytecode when none of the
contracts request it
* When requesting bytecode for all contracts in _only one_ file:
* `resolc after` now compiles in ~450ms (vs ~14.5s)
* `solc` still compiles in the same time as when requesting bytecode for
all contracts in all files
* This is something they have tried to improve (see
[Solidity#15373](https://github.com/argotorg/solidity/issues/15373) and
[Solidity#15615](https://github.com/argotorg/solidity/issues/15615)),
and the intended behavior seems to now be that bytecode should only be
generated when explicitly requested for each contract.
* Even though PRs have merged to try to fix it, their issue seems to
persist as of v0.8.33.
# Open Questions
* Foundry:
* [x] Pruning of the AST:
* Just saw [this past
commit](https://github.com/paritytech/revive/pull/385) to not prune the
AST for Foundry compatibility.
* Can Foundry not explicitly request `"": "ast"`?
* **Answer:**
* Pruning the AST when not requested should be fine, as long as Foundry
explicitly requests it when needed.
* Will be tested by Foundry maintainer.

Changes in `docs/` (~25 files) can be skipped as they are automatically
updated after adding content to `book/` and rebuilding it.
